Assessment OF learning is 'summative', i.e.
its main purpose is to
grade and certify students' achievement. Examples are exams, graded projects, and papers.
Assessment FOR learning is 'formative', aiming to support and
advance students in their learning1'. This can also be described as Assessment AS Learning.
Assessment FOR learning usually occurs throughout the teaching
and learning process to clarify student learning and understanding.
Assessment AS Learning is the use of ongoing self-assessment by
students in order to monitor their own learning, which is “characterized by students reflecting on their own learning and making adjustments so that they achieve deeper understanding.
