Principle 15:“the precautionary approach shall be widely
applied by States according to their capabilities:”
Principle 17: “Environmental impact assessment, as a
national instrument, shall be undertaken for proposed
activities that are likely to have a significant adverse
impact on the environment and are subject to a decision of
a competent national authority.”

OVERVIEW: Philippine EIS System
Environmental Assessment
Process of estimating and evaluating
significant short-term and long-term
effects of a program or project on the
quality of its location's environment. It
also includes identifying ways to
minimize, mitigate, or eliminate these
effects and/or compensate for their
impact.
OVERVIEW: Philippine EIS System
An EIA is a
systematic process that examines
the environmental consequences of a
proposed activity to the:
- bio-physical environment
- socio-economic environment
and designing appropriate
environmental measures to mitigate
negative consequences & enhance the
positive impact.
