MOVIE SUMMARY
Raajneeti is a story about Indian politics. About Indian

democracy. About Indian elections. Above all, it is a story of a

few people who control the destiny of millions. It is the story of

their unstoppable ambitions, and their bitter and violent battle to

achieve it. This is the story of people who understand power - and

know how to wield it at will.

It is the story of Bhaskar Sanyal (Naseruddin Shah), the fire-

brand leftist leader, as feared for his single-handed ability to

challenge the most powerful of leaders as he was respected for

his political integrity. Until one private mistake of his hurtled him

into a self-imposed exile and spawned a secret consequence that

shook the destiny of the political future of the state.

And of Sooraj (Ajay Devgan) who rose from the backward classes
- with anger in his heart and leadership on his mind. And yet, his
destiny could never overcome the tragedy of his birth, trapping
him in a terrible dilemma where his loyalty to his friend threatens
to destroy his own family. Of Brij Gopal (Nana Patekar), who
shunned every political ambition even as he continued to mentor
and guide the younger generation of leaders while the battle got
bloodier by the day.

It is the story of Prithvi Pratap (Arjun Rampal), heir to a powerful

political legacy and impatient to seize the top position. A man with
a heart of gold but who is all brawn. A man whose uncontrollable
passions bring his family to the brink of political extinction.
And of Veerendra Pratap (Manoj Bajpai), whose lunge at the
throne was thwarted even as he was within striking distance of it.
A man who believes he was born to rule, and who will now stop at
absolutely nothing to claw his way back to the top.

Of Indu Sakseria (Katrina Kaif), the princess - beautiful,

passionate, arrogant. She had only one all-consuming love. Little
did she know that her personal happiness was dependent on the
changing electoral fortunes of her love, and that even a slight
shift in the faultiness of political negotiation would cause a
devastating earthquake in her personal life? And yet, this spirited
never-say-die diva rose from the ashes of her tragedy to
challenge every contender, over-turning the political future of the
state.

Of Sarah Jean Collins (Sarah Thompson), who came from one of

the bloodiest and most violent places of earth. Who escaped from
there, bruised, hurt, and fell in love with a soul-mate who shared a
similar legacy. And her abhorrence for it. And yet, when he was
sucked into his destiny, this innocent bewildered girl's private
world was thrown asunder.

And, it is the story of Samar Pratap (Ranbir Kapoor), the ultimate

outsider. The apolitical conscientious objector, who got
reluctantly sucked into the battle-ravaged arena of family rivalry.
Only to turn into a master of the craft of political warfare. It is
the story of the woman that he loved, and the one that loved and
lost him. It is the story of his determined and fierce fight to
protect his family. Of the bloodiest of final battles in a war alien
to his character. It is the story of a man's descent into the moral
hell that is Indian politics.

It is the story of a fiercely fought election campaign, where

money-power and corruption are the accepted norms, and where
treachery and manipulation are routinely used weapons. As the
personal drama of these conflict-ridden characters unfolds
against this gritty backdrop, love and friendship become mere
baits, and relationships get sacrificed at the altar of political
alignments. The darkness that rises from their soul threatens to
envelope all that they hold precious. Until eventually, in the
crescendo of increasing violence, the line between good and evil
blurs, making it impossible to distinguish heroes from villains.

CAST OF MOVIE
Film: Rajneeti
Director: Prakash Jha

Cast: Nana Patekar, Manoj Bajpai, Ranbir Kapoor, Ajay Devgan,

Katrina Kaif

RATING OF CHARACTERS
The Pratap family, sitting on a political throne in Central India, is
on the verge of a thumping victory when its veteran leader
collapses with a paralytic stroke. As he battles for life in the
hospital, his two heirs, his son Veerendra Pratap (Manoj Bajpayee)
and his nephew Prithvi Pratap (Arjun Rampal) vie to take his place.

When Prithvi is appointed leader and chief ministerial candidate, a

bitter Veerendra finds an ally in backward class leader Sooraj
(Ajay Devgan), who wants a place for his people on the political
map. Together, they attack the backbone of Prithvi’s family, and
as assassins’ bullets fly, they plot to put Prithvi behind bars and
out of the political game.

Prithvi’s foreign-returned younger brother, Samar (Ranbir

Kapoor), must leave behind an American girlfriend and his phd in
European poetry, to take control of his family. Under the
mentorship of his father’s closest confidante, Brij Gopal (Nana
Patekar), Samar takes charge of affairs and with a cold bloodied
calm, fights this battle to its finish.

Like a frenetic game of chess, the power balance shifts with

every move in this political saga. Even though it takes obvious
inspiration from the Mahabharata and Francis Ford Copolla’s The
Godfather, Rajneeti comes through as an original piece of writing.
Though, not without its flaws.
The canvas is gigantic and the pictures that Prakash Jha paint are
jaw dropping. His images are stark and bear resemblance to
dramatic poltical news-reels from India's modern history. Het
puts into perpective the use of the media to stage out
unparliamentry games, and the abuse of backward classes for
votes. And somewhat like Gulzar did in Aandhi (1975), Jha dares
to take us into the homes of dynastic politics. Cameraman Sachin
Kumar Krishnan spectacularly lenses the political rallies thronged
by thousands of poor voters.

Yet, Anjum Rajabali & Prakash Jha’s screenplay has several

peculiarities that might not be palatable, especially in its second
half. There are too many assassinations where all the victims are
lured to their death in the same way. Also, the battle between the
split family becomes one sided, leaving the opposition with no
trump cards to unfold. There is even an incomplete item song,
that makes you wonder if the projectionist made a mistake and
put on a reel from some silly Bollywood film.

While ‘Rajneeti’ gets its politics spot on, it gets its emotions a
little messed up. It is hard to feel for most of the characters as
they all seem uni-dimensional. Yes, we understand that absolute
power corrupts, but how can an audience feel for characters that
themselves don’t feel at all?

Arjun Rampal, whose character seems inspired by the hot-headed

Sonny Corleone from Godfather, shouts to portray his hot
headedness. His craft is exposed by weak body language. His
hands are mostly in his pocket and some powerful dialogue is
wasted on his poor oration.

Ajay Devgan plays Sooraj, who bears a strong resemblance to

Karna from Mahabharata and must make the ultimate sacrifice
for his family. Devgan plays the character effectively, but doesnt
go beyond what he has already played.
Katrina Kaif’s beautiful face appears frozen in crucial scenes. She
doesn’t rise up to a well-mounted character that must sacrifice
true love for the sake of ambition. She looks stunning when she
dons the rich khadi sari and is compelled to take the podium at a
rally. The drama beautifully builds when she waves to the crowds,
dwarfed by massive cut outs of herself. Sadly, her speech is not
awe-inspiring.

Ranbir Kapoor, with a character modeled on Micheal Corleone,

puts in a sharp and restrained performance, but suffers from
flaws in his written character. Even though he says at some point
that he was forced to enter politics, no-where in his set-up does
that come across. In fact, he offers cold bloodied suggestions to
his family even before the shit hits the fan. His love story with
Sarah (Sarah Thomson Kane), his American girlfriend and his
relationship with Indu (Katrina Kaif) the girl that loves him, evoke
no feeling. Yet, aided with effective dialogue delivery and good
body language, Kapoor’s performance as the manupilative young
‘king-maker’ is noteworthy.

Thank god for actors like Nana Patekar & Manoj Bajpai. These are
performers who know their craft and don’t allow the directors
vision to crumble. Nana Patekar, like Krishna from Mahabharata,
silently watches from the wings and gives calculated cues to his
warriors. His reactions are superb, and without much dialogue, he
conveys more than his many of his younger counterparts do.

Manoj Bajpai is sharp. This film offers him another chance to

perform to his awesome potential, and he holds it perfectly right
to the end. Even though his character is similar to Rampal’s angry
& bratty Prithvi, Bajpai is extremely convincing and breathes life
into Veerendra Pratap.

Prakash Jha deftly handles his technical crew. The

cinematography is superlative as is Shyam Kaushal’s nail biting
action sequences. Wayne Sharpe’s background score is excellent
and the Rajneeti theme is haunting and dramatic. Rajneeti packs
in some racy drama and keeps you glued to your seat right to the
end.

Watch the film as a definitive reflection of our times and forgive

its casting director for not choosing more experienced actors.

Personality can be defined as a dynamic and organized set of characteristics possessed

by a person that uniquely influences his or hercognitions, motivations, and behaviors in various
situations [2]. The word "personality" originates from the Latin persona, which means mask.
Significantly, in the theatre of the ancient Latin-speaking world, the maskwas not used as a plot
device to disguise the identity of a character, but rather was a convention employed to represent
or typify that character.
Example

Attitude
An attitude is a hypothetical construct that represents an individual's degree of like or dislike for
an item. Attitudes are generally positive or negative views of a person, place, thing, or event-- this
is often referred to as the attitude object. People can also be conflicted or ambivalent toward an
object, meaning that they simultaneously possess both positive and negative attitudes toward the
item in question.

responses of poples and then motivate to change their behaviour.

processes a message. One such trait is intelligence - it seems that more intelligent people are le
Source Characteristics: The major source characteristics are expertise, trustworthiness
andinterpersonal attraction or attractiveness. The credibility of a perceived message has been
found to be a key variable here; if one reads a report about health and believes it came from a
professional medical journal ss easily persuaded by one-sided messages.

Message Characteristics: The nature of the message plays a role in persuasion. Sometimes pr
Cognitive Routes: A message can appeal to an individual's cognitive evaluation to help change an
attitude. In the central route to persuasion the individual is presented with the data and motivated
to evaluate the data and arrive at an attitude changing conclusion esenting both sides of a story is

MOTIVATION NEED AND PROCESESS
The derivation of the word tells us that motivation refers to
getting someone moving. When we motivate ourselves or
someone else, we develop incentives - we set up conditions
that start or stop behavior. In education motivation deals with
the problem of setting up conditions so that learners will
perform to the best of their abilities in academic settings. We
often motivate learners by helping them develop an
expectancy that a benefit will occur as a result of their
participation in an instructional experience. In short, motivation
is concerned with the factors that stimulate or inhibit the desire
to engage in a behavior.

CONTENTS THEORIES OF WORK

MOTIVATION
Another fundamental approach to motivation is to consider
human behavior as stimulated by the urge to satisfy needs. For
example, Maslow lists four basic needs and three growth
needs (Figure 5.4). These needs are hierarchical; that is, lower
level needs must be at least temporarily satisfied before
learners can be motivated by higher needs. For example, a
hungry person is not likely to be motivated by esteem needs;
and a person with very low self esteem is not likely to be
motivated by the need to know and understand. Basic needs
are essential to physical and psychological well-being. Once
these needs are satisfied, the motivation to satisfy them
diminishes, or even vanishes for a while. Growth needs, on the
other hand, can never be satisfied completely. When these
needs are partly fulfilled, the need to fulfill them may become
even greater. Needs related to personality development and
self-actualization are further discussed in chapter 8.

Physiological needs
In this movie ranbeer kapoor and his brother are fulfill their this
basic need. This need is unlearned and that’s why they join to get
the Govt. because his father is the most popular and successful
politicion in India.

rising to a challenge and preparing to meet a tough situation with focus, strength, stamina,

CONFLICTS
Conflict is actual or perceived opposition of needs, values and interests. A conflict can be internal
(within oneself) to individuals. Conflict as a concept can help explain many aspects of social life
such as social disagreement, conflicts of interests, and fights between individuals, groups, or
organizations. In political terms, "conflict" can refer to wars, revolutions or other struggles, which
may involve the use of force as in the term armed conflict. Without proper social arrangement or
resolution, conflicts in social settings can result in stress or tensions among stakeholders. When
an interpersonal conflict does occur, its effect is often broader than two individuals involved, and
can affect many associate individuals and relationships, in more or less adverse, and sometimes
even way.

TYPES OF CONFLICTS
ORGANIZATINAL CONFLICT
Organizational conflict is a state of discord caused by the actual or perceived opposition
of needs, values and interests between people working together. Conflict takes many forms
in organizations. There is the inevitable clash between formal authority and power and those
individuals and groups affected. There are disputes over how revenues should be divided, how
the work should be done, and how long and hard people should work. There are jurisdictional
disagreements among individuals, departments, and between unions and management. There are
subtler forms of conflict involving rivalries, jealousies, personality clashes, role definitions, and
struggles for power and favor. There is also conflict within individuals — between competing
needs and demands — to which individuals respond in different ways.

GROUP CONFLICT

also called group intrigues, is where social behaviour causes groups of individuals to conflict with
each other. It can also refer to a conflict within these groups. This conflict is often caused by
differences in social norms, values, and religion.

Both constructive and destructive conflict occurs in most small groups. It is very important to
accentuate the constructive conflict and minimize the destructive conflict. Conflict is bound to
happen, but if we use it constructively then it need not be a bad thing.

When destructive conflict is used in small groups, it is counterproductive to the long term goal. It is
much like poisoning the goose that lays the golden eggs. In the case of small group
communication, destructive conflict creates hostility between the members. This poisons group
synergy and the results, the golden eggs if you will, either cease being produced or are at least
inferior in quality.

Using constructive conflict within small groups has the opposite effect. It is much like nourishing
the goose so that it continues to produce the golden eggs, golden eggs which may be even better
than what the unnourished goose could have produced. In this sense, bringing up problems and
alternative solutions while still valuing others in small groups allows the group to work forward
