10.1 Introduction.
10.2 Pre-requisites.
You will now produce an orthographic (3rd angle) projection drawing of the
STARTPART.prt model. You will add dimensions and a section as needed for a fully
detailed drawing. See below.
Fig. 10.1
10.2 Pre-requisites.
Before we start the drawing we need to modify the 3-D model STARTPART.prt to define
a plane on which we will take the drawing Section AA.
Select FRONT
to offset from.
Fig.10.2
Select the FRONT datum plane to Offset from, as shown above in Fig 10.2.
" Tip: If you have difficulty selecting the correct plane use Quit Sel,
refer to Section 5.6.2 –using Query Select.
Click on Enter Value under OFFSET in the Menu Manager.
Enter 200 as shown above, to give a datum plane, DTM1, at half the length of the
STARPART.prt model, Fig. 10.2.
There are two methods to start a drawing. If you have completed the operation above
and STARTPART.prt is active:
Click OK.
! Note: You can use any name for the drawing. The model that the
drawing associates with is not defined by the drawing file name
but by the active part or assembly.
In the resulting New Drawing window:
Click
Click
In the Orientation window Reference 1 is requesting the Front. This requires a plane
or surface that you define as the front of the component, as you wish to view it in the
drawing. Select the surface as shown below.
" Tip: Use Query Select to give you more control over your selecting!
Reference 1.
The front.
Reference 2.
The top.
For Reference 2 select the Top as shown and then OK in the Orientation window.
Click
You will add another General view in order to demonstrate the method.
Add a General View from as in section 10.5.1, and place it in the empty top right
quadrant of the drawing.
Click OK in the Orientation window to accept the defaulted orientation. Do not worry if
the view is too large for the drawing at this stage.
! IMPORTANT NOTE :
When indicating the position of a projected view it is sometimes
possible to indicate a point that allows a projection from two
existing views. In this case Pro/E prompts that you have
CONFLICTING VIEWS and prompts for the view from which you
wish to project. Select this view.
We now need to carry out various procedures to obtain a good layout of views.
Redraw:
! Note: To clean up the drawing display, you can redraw any time.
You will do this during the following operations.
0.2
We need to move the views in order to provide space for dimensioning, notes, etc.
Click on the actual view to select the view you wish to move.
Click on it again and move the mouse in order to move the view.
! Note: If you select a parent view, (i.e. a view from which you have
projected another view) the parent and child (projected view)
will move.
This move operation is also available under Views > Move View from Menu Manager on
the right. Move and re-scale your drawing to give a layout as shown above.
See section 10.9 if you wish to delete a view and replace it.

The dimensions are untidily presented on the drawing. We will now rearrange to
produce an acceptable drawing.

Limit/witness line.
Move off the view and press RMB to obtain the sub-menu.
Redraw.
Dimensions that are associated with the 3-D model cannot actually be deleted, but do
appear on the drawing after Show All. This means many dimensions are duplicated and
are not needed on the drawing, so they can be Erased.
In the Show and Erase window select Erase. Select Items is selected in this
window by default so select all the dimensions to delete and then Done Sel and
Done Sel again to complete.
We will add a Section View to our drawing, see Fig 10.1, (although it is not needed for
this simple part).
You may need to Move Views, Section 10.8, to provide space for the Section view.
You will need to display the Datum Planes to show the Section plane.
Redraw.

For Height: Switch off the tick in the box at Default, delete in the box and type
new height, say 8.
For Thickness: Switch off the tick in the box at Default, delete in the box and type
new thickness, say 0.5.
Create similar drawings for other parts you have created, using similar procedures.
When finished, close each window and erase files not displayed, as described in section
2.9.
Select this heading and in the Value window at the bottom change no to yes,
then click on Add/Change, then Apply and Close.
