This document provides steps to design a portal frame structure using a GUI method. It involves:
1) Creating nodes by plotting coordinates for the frame and connecting them with beam elements. Supports are assigned as fixed.
2) Assigning loads like self-weight, dead, live, and concentrated loads to the frame.
3) Defining concrete material properties and assigning beam and column properties.
4) Designing the frame by selecting code parameters and assigning them.
5) Analyzing the frame to generate a report with concrete designs and load details.

Ex-2 Portal Frame
Design a Portal Frame with the suitable load. Use GUI method with respective coordinates.
Step: 1 Creating Node
Plot the coordinates according to the given dimension of the portal frame. Example: Node 1: X=0 Y=0; Node 2 : X=4 Y=0; Similarly type the Nodes and plot the total nodes as per the given frame. Step: 2 Assign Beam Element Join each node by using Beam cursor, and complete the frame structure with Beams and Column. And then move to General tab Support , select the bottom nodes and assign the support as Fixed. Step: 3 Assign Load Move to General tab Loads & Definition. Add Load case as Dead, later on add the self weight, dead load of floor, brick work if any…. Similarly you can add the Live load, Projection point loads, etc. In the present case, add Uniform load, Nodal Load and Concentrated load. Step: 4 Assign Property General tab Property, Define Concrete material. Assume all Beam size to be 230x350mm and all columns to be 400x400mm. Select the beams and columns assign the properties respectively. Step: 5 Designs Design tab Concrete, Select IS 456 code, Define the reuired parameters, like grade of concrete, steel, clear cover, effective depth, Max.Steel bar size, Distribution bar size, spacing etc., Later on the assign these parameter to the structure in appropriate way. Then move to the Command button, select Design Beam and design Column, assign this two additional parameter to the structure. Step: 6 Analyses Select Commands button from menu bar, Analysis- Perform analysis – All. Then click on Analyze button from menu bar. Output: The Report file will be generated with Concrete Design and all Load details.
