Guitar:

The RECORDING SESSION
● To record the guitar I used the Shure SM57, placing it Off-Axis.
The RECORDING SESSION
● Vocals: Shure KSM 42
● I recorded the vocals before the instruments
Microphone Techniques
● For recording the drums I have chosen the stereo AB technique for the
overheads and for the rest I used the close miking placements.
● Microphones used: AKG D112 for the kickdrum, a matching pair of Oktava
012 for the overheads, 1x Shure SM57 for the Snare Top, AKG C214 for the
Ride, 2x Senheisser MD421 for the Floor and Rack Tom
● For the guitar I used the Shure SM57, Off-axis
● For the vocals I used the Shure KSM 42
● Phantom Power (48v) used on any condenser microphone
Microphone Techniques
The RECORDING SESSION
● Microphone signals routed to the console’s short faders
● Pro Tools returns routed to the long faders for sound monitoring
● The signal was also routed to the subgroups on the console going to the
musician’s headphones in the live room

Pro Tools Session:

● Pro Tools 10 used as a Tape Machine (24 bit depth, 44.1 Khz Buffer Size)
● Provided Clicktrack for Guitar and Drum recording
THE MIXING SESSION
● Mixed in Pro Tools
● Session structured with color coding
● Trims for Raw Mix
● EQ
● Compression for the Vocals, Guitar and Leads
● Reverbs and Delays
● Side Chain plugin for the Leads, Guitar, Bass and Pads
● ML4000 Limiter used on the Guitar channel
● Frequency and volume automation when necessary
THE MIXING SESSION
● For the guitar I used ML4000 limiter to reduce to tighten and reduce the
dynamics
● I used the LFO Tool as sidechain plugin for Guitar, Leads, Bass, Pads
● On the master channel I used Dyn3 Compressor before ML4000 Limiter and
then Master Meter. For the limiter I chose a ceiling of -0.20db.
