Design of Circular Column: Step 1find The Moment:: M E Ultimate Load Where E 0.05 H 0.05 400 20mm 0.02m

The document provides steps to design a circular reinforced concrete column. It calculates the moment and effective depth, then determines the reinforcement ratio and area of steel required. The area of steel is checked against maximum and minimum limits. Finally, the number of reinforcement bars needed is calculated. Key calculations include determining the moment using ultimate load and effective depth, then finding reinforcement ratio and area using the moment, load, and chart values.

Design of circular column:

Step 1Find the moment:

M = Emin *ultimate load

Where

Emin = 0.05*h =0.05*400 = 20mm = 0.02m

M = 0.02m*1605.2KN = 32.1KN

Step 2: find the effective depth:

D = H- 2*C-ФT/2 = 400mm – 2*25mm -16mm/2 =342 mm

Step 6: find the value of N/bh and M/bh2

N/bh = 1605.2KN/ (300*400) = 11..5 KN/mm2

M/bh2 = 32.1*106/ (350*4002) = 0.57 ≈ 0.7 N/mm2

Step 7: find the value k from chart:

Where

D/h = 342mm/400 = 0.85 ≈ 0.9 fcu = 40mm chart no: 39

:. K = 0.39

Step 8: find the value of AS:

100AS/bh = k

As = (bh)*k/100 = 350*400*0.38/100 = 532 mm2

Step 9: checking of As:

Asmax = 6*bh/100 =6*350*400/100 = 8400mm2

Asmin =0.4*350*400/100 = 560 mm2

:. Asmax = 8400 mm2 > As = 532 mm2 < Asmin = 560mm2

So we must take Asmini= 560 mm2

Step 10: find number of bars:

ФT = 16 mm

Area of one bar = π*D2/4 = π*(16)2/4 = 201 mm2

Then

No of bars = Area of reinforcement / Area of one bar = 560 mm2/201mm2 = 2.78 ≈ 4 bars
