Time: 50 min

SPECIFIC COMPETENCES
1.1 to understand oral commands

3.1 to extract information from a text to complete a task

AIMS
By the end of the lesson the S will be able to:
- describe past activities,
- give preferences and reason,
- ask for information and confirmation
- recycle Past Simple – question tags
TEACHING TECHNIQUES
- dialogue, explanation, conversation, brainstorming, elicitation
SKILLS: Listening,writing, speaking
INTERACTION: T – S; S-T; S – S, group work
MATERIALS: board, flashcards, worksheets, pens, markers, flip chart, snacks
ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS:
- some students might need further help and extra indications in solving the tasks and they may
also need some of these indications to be given in Romanian;
-some students might feel nervous and reluctant to participate in the activity, so they may need
more encouragement.
Warm Up
Aim:
-to create a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere
Procedure: -T greets the Ss and ask about their mood. T checks homework.
Timing:5 min

Activity 1: Lead-in
Aim:
-to activate students’ interest on the lesson;
Procedure:
T announces the title and the objectives of the lesson
Timing: 5 min.

Activity 2: Presentation & Practice


Aim:
-to engage students in expressing opinion
-to focus students attention on the theme of the text
-to prepare students for the next stage of the lesson
Procedure: T asks S to read the words describing holiday. Quickly checks their comprehension.
Makes sure they understand the meaning of the word ‘ordinary’. Brainstorms the word on the
board, S write them in their notebooks.
Possible answers: nice, terrible, fantastic, bad, special, strange, lovely etc.
T wants to brainstorm adjectives specific to :
-People: kind, helpful, etc
-Weather: wet, ho,t cool etc
-Food: tasty, delicious etc.
T asks S to describe aspects of their holidays using some of the word they learnt. T takes
responses from 4 or 5 students.
T asks S to write in their notebooks one or two sentences for each adjective to explain why they
chose it. Then, T asks each S to exchange his/her notebook with another S’s to find out about
his/her partner’s holiday.T asks S to compare their holiday with their partner’s and report to the
class.
Possible answers: I had an ordinary holiday, but Mary had an exciting one because she learnt
how to ride horses and climbed the highest mountain peak in the country.
T asks S to express their preferences and to give reasons.

Timing:10 min
Interaction: pair work, individual work
Activity 3: Practice
Aim:
-to develop S’ listening skills & to monitor understanding of the text
Procedure: T plays the tape . T asks S to listen to the tape to find out the answer ( Steve is
showing Jane some holiday photos/ holiday snaps.)
T asks S to look at the words expressing activities. T makes sure S understand the words. T plays
the tape again T asks S to put down any words they need for the task in their notebooks.
( cycling, walking, swimming etc)
Timing:10 min
Interaction: T-S, pair work

Activity 4: Practice
Aim:
- to extract information from a text
- to consolidate information
Procedure: T asks S to read the caption first. T tries to make S remember some of the activities
Steve mentions. T asks S to write the answers in their notebooks. ( follow a rope through water;
crawl through a tunnel). T asks S to look at the notes about Steve’s holiday. T explains to S the
differences between notes and complete sentences. T asks S to go on taking notes while listening
to the tape again. T asks 2or 3 S to report to the class briefly.
Timing: 5 min
Interaction: T-S, S-T, individual work

Activity 5: Production
Aim:
Procedure: - T helps S to remember some of the rules they know for the forming and
intonation of question tags and helps them to understand simple past – question tags. T asks S to
work in pairs. T asks S to refer to the Language Focus box and use question tags to checks their
notes with their partner’s. T makes sure they form question tags correctly and they use a falling
intonation when asking for confirmation. T asks S to write their questions in their notebooks. T
gives the S a handout with some exercises. T asks S the right answers and correct them if
necessary.(appendix 1)
Timing: 15 min
Interaction: T-S, pair work

Homework assignment: 2 min T asks S to use past simple to write complete sentences about
their holiday.
