What Is GUI?

The document discusses graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and their importance for product usability. It notes that GUIs allow users to interact with computers through visual symbols and pointing devices. The document then states that GUIs can make complex processes like multi-effect evaporation systems easier to use. Specifically, GUIs provide more efficient ways to solve equations for evaporator systems compared to traditional trial-and-error methods.

INTRODUCTION

What is GUI?

Graphical user interface (GUI) is a computer program that enables a person to

communicate with a computer through the use of symbols, visual metaphors, and

pointing devices. The user interacts with such “window”-based user interfaces using

some types of point and click device. The primary function of any graphical user

interface is to provide users with a work space and tools to do work. The range of tasks

of a computer system is able to completely or partially support a human to perform is

very diverse.

Importance

The importance of good User Interface Design can be the difference between

product acceptance or rejection. If end-users feel it is not easy to learn, not easy to use,

or too cumbersome, an otherwise excellent product could fail. Good User Interface

Design can make a product easy to understand and use, which results in greater user

acceptance. It also serves as the pre- and post–processor; it facilitates preparation of

simulation input data, including the layout and allows the user to display detailed

performance results, (Miranda, 2011).

Graphical User Interface for Multi Effect Evaporator

Evaporation systems are separation processes widely used in chemical industries.

The traditional trial-and error taught in most textbooks is the traditional methods for

solving multi-effect evaporator and this method is extremely limited and almost useless

for evaporator series larger than three yet virtually all unit operation textbooks
discussed it in some detail, (Joye & F. William, 1988). GUI provides more efficient

ways to solve the evaporator system.
