This document contains instructions and questions for a university test in Data Compression Engineering (DCE). There are 3 questions worth a total of 20 marks. Question 1 is worth 10 marks and requires answering any 5 parts which cover topics like ADPCM encoding/decoding, lossy vs lossless compression, audio masking techniques, data compression needs, and Huffman coding. Question 2 is worth 5 marks and requires answering 1 of 2 parts on A-law/μ-law companding or LZ-78 encoding. Question 3 is also worth 5 marks and involves explaining JPEG-2000 encoding/decoding or DPCM encoding/decoding and its disadvantages. Students are instructed to include diagrams where needed and assume
