VDI Questionnaire
This VDI questionnaire is designed to gather information on your VDI project.

The answers will help us to right size the storage and provide you with
suggestion for a successful implementation.
 If you are planning to use Citrix XenDesktop products (including XenApp)

please complete Section I.
 If you are planning to use VMware View please complete the Section II of
this document.
Section I
1. What is the desktop OS you plan to use? Windows8 or Windows 7 or

Windows XP?
2. What is the number of seats? Will this be all windows 8/7/xp (If mixed,
please specify the mix)?
3. If Microsoft Windows 7, is it going to be 32 bit or 64 bit?
4. How much memory per desktop? Is it going to be 1GB/1.5GB or 2GB?
5. How many CPUs per desktop? 1 or 2 vCPU?
6. What Version of XenDesktop suite you plan to use?
7. Do you plan to implement any of the following way:
Machine Type Yes/No

1. Pooled
2. Pooled with Personal vDisk
3. Dedicated
4. Existing desktops
5. Physical machines
6. Streamed
7. Streamed with Personal
vDisk
8. Is XenApp or Microsoft App-V in the mix for application delivery or just

9. Are you planning to use Provisioning server (PVS) for desktop

provisioning? Or you are going with Machine Creation Services (MCS)?
10. What is the workload they will be running on the desktops? Task
worker/Knowledge worker/or power users? What is the percentage
between those three workload types?
11. What stage is your current desktop Virtualization project in?
12. Has a POC done already for VDI? Do you have a pilot?
a. If Yes, do you have an idea of the IOPS currently? Describe your

experience.
13. What is the hypervisor in consideration? Hyper‐ V or vSphere or

XenServer?
14. Any rich media or flash or any graphics intensive workload?
15. Is here a voice component to the desktop (are you planning on using
skype/Cisco Voice calling inside the desktop/GoToMeeting/Webex)?
16. Is Anti virus a part of the image or they are considering AV offloading or
vmsafe based agents?
17. Do you care if the density of the desktop on one server or a cluster is
high?
18. What other requirement should we be aware of? For ex. Two shifts,
different images (different countries), boot storm, login storm, application
response requirements…

9. What stage is your current desktop Virtualization project in?
