SUMMARY: The Research Engineer will help drive further growth in Ingenia Polymers
Ingenia’s business through successful development and 10 reviews
commercialization of new products. The Research Engineer will
identify, propose, gain approval and carry out long term
development projects for development of new products or
processes applicable to Ingenia’s businesses. Ingenia’s markets are
in the broad areas of polyolefins compounds, masterbatches and
additives used to service the polyolefin production and conversion
(extrusion, molding, forming) industries. This involves design of
experiments, raw materials evaluations, process and equipment
evaluations, formulation, scale-up support from laboratory trials to
production, plant support, and technical service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for development of new products and


manufacturing processes, with the aim of commercialization,
for Ingenia’s proprietary products group. This includes
development of polyolefin masterbatches and compounds
and for use in flexible packaging, rigid packaging,
agricultural film, pressure pipe, thermoforming, injection
molding or other downstream applications in line with the
company’s strategy. This involves:
Project definition in cooperation with Product Market
Managers and the Technical Services Manager
Literature and patent review
Supplier contacts and evaluation of new materials, processes
and equipment
Design of experiments, formulation and evaluation of new
products in Ingenia’s applications lab
Development of safety and materials data, and marketing
materials in support of product launch
Plant scale-up support
Trial support at customer’s facilities
Learn and practice Safety and ISO Quality procedures.
Prepare SDS and regulatory compliance documents for
customers
Evaluate and make recommendations on raw material
selection
Study principles, methods, and approaches to bring
innovative solutions to the product and process development
effort
Document lab results and recommendations via timely and
comprehensive reporting.
Solve customer problems, support process improvement,
and take responsibility of new product/process development
projects.
Represent Ingenia Technology as require to outside
customers

QUALIFICATIONS:

B.S. or BEng (MS/PhD preferred) in Polymers Science&


Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,
or Materials Science & Engineering.
Thorough understanding of Engineering and Chemistry
principles relevant to Compounding technologies.
Knowledge of twin screw extrusion compounding, and
downstream conversion processes including blown film, cast
film, profile and pipe extrusion, thermoforming and / or
injection molding.
Project and time management – ability to manage long term
projects with minimal supervision.
Ability to work cooperatively in team environment with peers,
managers and technicians.
Process, analytical and mechanical skills to execute laboratory
work, understand plant issues, and generate process
solutions for scale-up.
Ability to communicate professionally, both internally and to
customers and suppliers.
Proficient in data analysis, DOE and statistical methods.
1-3 years industrial polymer R&D and engineering
experience preferred.
