Policy Title Attendance & Punctuality

Policy Punctual attendance is an essential responsibility of each


Statement employee
Purpose To Promote the Efficient Operation of the Company

Policy
All Employees are expected to be on time and at their assigned work area at the
beginning of their shift and to work through their shift as scheduled.
Excessive absenteeism and tardiness interrupt workflow and customer service and will
not be tolerated.

Definitions
1. Excused Absence: Time-off requested and approved by the supervisor in
advance.
2. Unexcused Absence: An employee’s absence is unexcused when an employee is
absent from scheduled work without prior supervisor approval.
3. Late: Failure to be at assigned work area, in uniform and ready for work at the
beginning of the shift.
4. Leaving early: Clocking out five or more minutes before the end of shift without
supervisor approval.
5. No Call/No Show: Failure to contact supervisor and failure to report for shift
within one hour of scheduled start time.
6. Occurrence: An incident of a single day or any number of consecutive
unscheduled days.
7. Tardy: Failure to punch in or call in for employees assigned shift before the start
of their shift.
8. Excessive absenteeism:
 More then five unexcused absences in a rolling 12 month calendar is
considered excessive and is subject to disciplinary action.
9. Excessive tardiness:
 Two or more instances of lateness in a 30 day period are subject to
disciplinary action.
Family and Medical Leave Act
Absences due to illnesses or injuries which qualify under the Family and Medical Leave
Act (FMLA) will not be counted against an employee’s attendance record.
Procedure:
Employee tardiness:
If an employee can’t report to work as scheduled, the supervisor should be notified no
later than 15 minutes after the start of the shift.
Employee tardiness will be addressed with the following progressive discipline:
 Two days tardy within a thirty (30) day period
Oral Warning

 A total of three days tardy within the last four consecutive months
Written Warning

 A total of four days tardy within the last five consecutive months
One (1) day suspension without pay

 A total of six days tardy within the last six consecutive months
Three (3) day suspension without pay

 A total of seven days tardy within the last seven consecutive months
Five (5) day suspension without pay

 A total of eight days tardy within the last eight consecutive months
Termination

Employee Attendance:
Attendance is measured by the number of hours or days absent over a designated time
period. An attendance review will be initiated by the employee’s Supervisor when
improper or excessive absences occur, or when a pattern of absence appears to be
present.
Unexcused Absence
 Six occurrences of an unexcused absence within a rolling 12 month period
Verbal Warning

 Seven occurrences of an unexcused absence within a rolling 12 month period


Written Warning

 Eight occurrences of an unexcused absence within a rolling 12 month period


One Day Suspension

 Nine occurrences of an unexcused absence within a rolling 12 month period


Grounds for Dismissal
No Call/No Show
The first instance of a no call/no show will result in a final written warning. The second
separate offense may result in termination of employment with no additional
disciplinary steps. Any no call/no show lasting three days is considered job
abandonment and will result in immediate termination of employment.

Note: If the employee has already begun the progressive discipline


process for attendance/punctuality when a no call/no show occurs, the
disciplinary process may be accelerated to the final step of termination.
