<Splice program settings>

Page Item Description

1/8 Name Allows to edit splice program name.
Template Allows to choose splice program as a template when new
splice program is created.
Align Method Sets the alignment method for fibers to be spliced. Choose
from Core, Adaptive, Diameter and AIAS.
CoreAligns center of right and left optical fiber cores.
Adaptiveis effective when optical fiber with complex core
profile is spliced.
DiameterAligns center of right and left optical fiber
diameters.
AIASWhen core to cladding concentricity is high, surface
tension pulls the claddings into alignment and misaligns the
cores, causing high splice loss. The splicer automatically
performs axis shift prior to arc fusion when it foresees the
problem.
Auto Power Automatically optimizes arc power.
2/8 Arc Time Sets the arc fusion time.
Prefuse Time Sets the time between start of arc fusion and feeding of fibers.
Gap Sets the gap between fiber end faces before arc fusion.
Overlap Sets the distance of feeding fiber.
3/8 Arc Power Sets the arc power. Generally it is automatically set by an arc
test and does not need to be changed. It is shown as
[Standard + XX]. [Standard] means pre-set arc power. [+ XX]
can be manually increased or decreased.
Gapset Position Sets the position of splicing fibers. Generally it is
automatically set by an arc test and does not need to be
changed.
Cleaning Arc Time Sets the cleaning arc time for removing dust from optical fiber.
Rearc Time Sets the additional arc time to be conducted after splicing.
4/8 Splice Method Set the splice mode to Automatic or Manual.
5/8 Fiber Detection Automatically identifies fiber profile loaded.
Cleave Angle Limit Sets the threshold of cleave angle. If a reading exceeds the
threshold, the splicer will give an error.
Core Angle Limit Sets the threshold of core angle. If a reading exceeds the
threshold, the splicer will give an error.
Est. Loss Limit Sets the threshold of estimated loss. If a reading exceeds the
threshold, the splicer will give an error.
Continue to the next page.

6
Page Item Description
6/8 Fiber Pulling ON or OFF the action of pulling fiber after overlapping fiber.
Fiber Pulling Start Sets the time of pulling fiber.
Fiber Pulling Length Sets the distance of pulling fiber.
7/8 Estimation Mode Sets the loss estimation method to High(HDCM) or
Standard. If High(HDCM) is chosen, the splicer will
observe and inspect the core of spliced fiber with very high
precision after fusion splicing.
MFD-L Sets the MFD of left side optical fiber.
MFD-R Sets the MFD of right side optical fiber.
Wavelength Sets the wavelength for loss estimation calculation.
8/8 Minimum Loss Sets the value to be added to an estimated loss.
Est. Loss Coef. Sets the coefficient for loss estimation.
MFD Mismatch Coef. Sets the coefficient for an estimated loss yielded due to
MFD mismatch.

Analyzing fiber type
APDS: Auto fiber Profiling check and Detection System
The splicer automatically analyzes optical fiber type to be spliced from fiber image,
compares the analyzed splice program to the selected splice program and displays the
result on a screen. This system prevents splice program and fiber type from being
miss-selected. When the analyzed fiber type is different from the set fiber type, the
result screen appears and the splicer stops.
Fiber types that can be analyzed are typically SMF, MMF, DSF/NZDS and BIF.
The right and left fibers are analyzed individually.
If a fiber profile cannot be identified, the splicer displays OTHER.

Note: The TYPE-71C+ fusion splicer stores the profiling information of representative
fiber types. Therefore the splicer could make miss-analysis on a different
manufacturers or new fiber types. With regard to profiling data customization and the
modification of fiber types, contact our maintenance service center or sales personnel.
