"data." It has the ability to store,
retrieve, and process data.

shapes, sizes and
varieties.
Most computer
hardware was
proprietary until the
1980s, when IBM PC
changed this paradigm.

Proprietary hardware? What's that mean?
Proprietary hardware is a
piece of hardware which
has purposely had
hardware compatibility
restrictions placed upon it
by its vendor in order to
execute a vendor lock-in;
for example, if company
A's motherboard uses a
proprietary Accelerated
Graphics Port, then only
company A's AGP
graphics card will work on
their motherboards.
