ACADEMIC PROJECTS
• Implementation of PE analysis and feature extraction in PE Miner: PE Miner is a framework
that uses structural information in portable executables to detect zero-day malware. This project
involves analysis of the structure of PE files and the extraction of features from them.
(Mar '10 – May '10)
• GT FTP Monitor: This project uses the ptrace system library to implement a monitor for FTP
processes in Linux. It enforces Role Based Access Control and allows only particular groups of
users to access to particular files. (Mar '10 – May '10)
• Implementation of a case-based password-hardening scheme: An authentication scheme
that took into account, not only the password provided by the user but also the case in which he
enters it. The system “learns” from the user’s input initially, and then decides to allow or disallow
the user in the subsequent logins. (Feb ’10)
• Buzz-a-ride: An adhoc carpooling system that will be deployed on iPhone and Android
platforms. It allows users to avail this service by registering with the system as a driver or a
passenger. The user posts requests either to offer or to ask for a ride and a routing algorithm
will efficiently map the overlapping routes and determines the best match between the users.
Transactions occur through an integrated micropayment component. (Jan ’10 – May '10)
• Location based event notification with collaborative filtering on mobile devices: A system
that provides event notifications on the user’s phone, along with information on other relevant
events based on the preferences of similar users. (Jan ’10 – May '10)
• Wireless Road Traffic Viewer: A navigation tool that displayed information on a user’s cellular
device that calculated the shortest path, along with alternatives, between a given source and
destination. It also displayed live streaming video of the street traffic onto the user’s cell phone
from any given point on the map. (Jan ’07 – Jun ’07)
