For the 12 month period, 1 November 2016 to 31 October 2017:


There were 260 fatalities within Queensland, which is 22 fatalities (or 9.2%) greater than the
previous 12 month period (238).
The road fatality rate for Queensland was 5.29 fatalities per 100,000 population which is 7.5%
higher than the previous 12 month period (4.92) and is fourth behind the Australian Capital
Territory (1.46), Victoria (3.93) and New South Wales (4.75).
There were 1,215 fatalities within Australia, which is 51 fatalities (or 4.0%) fewer than the previous
12 month period (1,266).
The road fatality rate for Australia was 4.95 fatalities per 100,000 population which is 5.6% fewer
than the previous 12 month period (5.24).

During 1 January to 31 May 2017, there were 2,591 hospitalised casualties as a result of crashes within
Queensland, which is 135 hospitalised casualties (or 5.5%) greater than the same period for the previous
year and 57 hospitalised casualties (or 2.2%) fewer than the previous five year average for the same
period (Table 7).
