Lesson Content Description:


Students will learn about the flawed peace agreements of
WWI, specifically the Treaty of Versailles and Wilsons 14
Points. They will then analyze the primary source document of
Wilsons 14 Points.

Instructional Strategies/Method of Delivery:


PowerPoint, Socrative, Pair and Share, Guided Practice, Independent Practice, Marking
the Text

Common Core Standard:


CA State History Frameworks: 1. How did World War I end? What were the consequences
of the postwar agreement? President Woodrow Wilson offered a vision of a peaceful
postwar world order based on the principles of national self-determination and free trade in
his Fourteen Points. However, only some of his principles were embraced by Britain and
France in the Treaty of Versailles. The leaders of the victorious countries drafted the treaty,
which required the losing powers, particularly Germany, to assume responsibility for
starting the war, and for paying the victors reparations with large amounts of currency and
land.

Common Core Lesson Objective:


Students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of the Paris Peace Conference
controversy through their focus notes summary and a primary source analysis of the
Wilsons 14 Points.
Assessment:
Formative: students will write a summary of their notes, and then analyze the primary
source documents, answering the questions.

Warm-up: students will log onto Socrative.com to complete a political cartoon
analysis
They will view a cartoon that shows the sinking of the Lusitania by German U-Boats
and explain the message of the cartoon regarding U.S. patience and isolationism

Re-state Common Core Content Standard and Objective: Students will be able to
demonstrate their knowledge of the Paris Peace Conference controversy through their
focus notes summary and a primary source analysis of the Wilsons 14 Points.
Technology used to create and enhance the introduction to this lesson: Socrative.com

Final Closure of Lesson: Students will then complete a before and after map of Europe
analysis questions for homework. This will show their understanding of the impact of
WWI on Europe.
