Lesson Plan Describing Characters
Name: Hend Alyammahi Grade Level: Grade 6 f
CCSS Standards: the students described a setting of their own, using the technique of showing not telling.
Main Lesson Aims (Concepts, Procedures, & Processes):
- The students will describe the characters physical features.
- The students will describe the characters traits (personality).
- The students will create their own character and they will describe it both physical and personality
feature.
Materials: pictures of different characters, students' notebook, adjectives sheet.

Students Prior Knowledge:
- The students know the function of the adjectives.
- The students can write an introduction of a story, write dialog, and describe settings.
Possible Problems and Misconceptions/ solution
- Some students might use inappropriate adjectives to describe the characters. So, I must make sure to
correct them.

Lesson Schedule
Targeted teacher language: good morning students, today we are going to learn how to describe the characters
of the story. It is very important to use words that have impact upon the reader. We should try to show the
reader the character we are talking about, and not telling them in a boring way.
Student language: good morning Ms. Hend. My character is my character has (they have to use
adjectives and metaphor).
Engage (warm up, review prior knowledge): time:
- Review: ask the students to tell me about their setting from the previous lesson.
- I will tell the students: toady we are going to learn how to write a description of the
characters. 5 min
Core (introduce and practice new concepts & procedures):
- I will show them a picture and I will ask them to describe it (on their white boards as a
routine). I will ask them to describe facial features like: eyes, hair, face, and mouth.
- Then I will show them another picture with a character doing something (helping). I will
ask them to describe his/her personality.
- Then I will give them a sheet including some adjectives and traits that will help when
writing about their character. Also, guided sheet where they have to write general
information about their character.
- Then I will ask them to work on their guided sheets for 10 minutes. 25
- After that, they have to write their final work in their notebooks. (7 minutes)
Close (wrap up, discussion, brief review activity or assessment): 5 min
- I will ask for volunteers to read their word for the whole class. Comment on their work.
