EXTERNAL DESCRIPTION
Body Condition Decomposed
Hair Red/Brown, in dreadlocks
Eyes Decomposed
Teeth Natural, in fair repair
Received are the partially skeletonized remains of an adult female. The body is clad in socks, sports bra, hoodie
sweatshirt, and shirt. The shirt and hoodie are mostly off of the body, only covering the bilateral hands. A navel
piercing, yellow metal earring and a metal hairband accompany the body. Identifying marks consist of a tattoo of three
roses connected by beads on the right thigh. There is no evidence of medical intervention.
INJURIES
The body is partially skeletonized including the posterior head, posterior torso, left shoulder and right arm. There are
abundant insect larvae present in varying stages of maturation. Pupa casings are not identified. There is a shallow skin
ulceration at the left buttock. There is a " circular defect in the desiccated skin 41" above the heel and at midline of
the anterior torso. This defect may be secondary to decomposition changes. Right fingernail #3 is broken. There is
particulate matter beneath the bilateral fingernails. The axial skeleton and hyoid bone are cleaned. No definitive tool
marks, trauma, or disease process is noted at the bones.

PROCEDURES
Radiographs
Whole body radiographs do not reveal any radiopaque foreign objects.
Identification
Positive identification is made by comparison of antemortem photographs of the tattoo at the right thigh with the body.
Comparison of the postmortem dental exam with antemortem dental records are confirmatory.
Special Evidence Collection
Swabs are obtained of the teeth, rectum, wrists, fingernails, and breasts.
INTERNAL EXAMINATION
Body Cavities
The body cavities contain oily decomposition fluid. The organs are fully decomposed. The majority of the musculature
and soft tissue from the pelvis up is decomposed with merely desiccated skin covering the majority of the upper body.
There is decomposed muscle beneath the skin at the pelvis and lower extremities.
Musculoskeletal System
All of the bones are present with the exception of teeth #8 and #20. Several teeth are received separate from their
respective sockets and replaced. Alveoli #8 and #20 are intact. These two teeth are most likely lost during recovery.
MICROSCOPIC EXAMINATION
Microscopic Comment
Histologic examination is not performed secondary to the advanced stage of decomposition.
Her medical history includes seizure disorder for which she took medications from 5 to 13 years of age. She is
reportedly seizure free since that time.
Autopsy examination reveals the decomposed remains of an adult female. Positive identification is made via visual
examination (tattoos) and confirmed by dental examination.
Benzodiazepines, cocaine metabolite, gabapentin/pregabalin, opiates/opioids, and organic bases are not detected in
Based on the history and autopsy findings, it is my opinion that the cause of death in this case is undetermined trauma.
