Another type of tearing is that of a string
of d a n c i n g g i r l s , o r s k e l e t o n s , b u t this is r a t h e ?
h a c k n e y e d , s o to be d i f f e r e n t we suggest a string of s a n d w h i c h
m e n as shown below w i t h t h o i r a d v e r t i s i n g b o a r d s .
For this the folding is d i f f e r e n t . Take a s t r i p a b o u t 10" wide

boards, l o f t , s o they join as s h o w n i n the i l l u s t r a t i o n .
Other designs of this type are alos given, tho c l o w n in partic-
ular makes a goqd s t r e a m e r , e a s y to c u t . W i t h these two designs
y o u leave the folds square (10 )
If y o u w a n t a line to guide y o u i n cutting or tearing,pencil
the d e s i g n on the folded paper and t h e n open out. A pencilled
d e s i g n w i l l not be noticed a few feet away,and all y o u need d o

Take a square of newspaper and fold it u shown

in the first illustration. The folded paper, shown in
the second drawing, is now cut as shown. You will
..v.itc that the cuts do not go right through, and each
.. ysu cut, you do so from the opposite 6ide.
When you have completed the cutting, open out
the paper carefully, then turn it inside out, pull the
point downwards, and you will have the pretty effect
shown in the final drawing. If these are cut out ct
coloured' paper they will make very effective decora-
t.ons for a party, and they can be draped around an
electric light globe.

T h e A f g h a n Band trick is one rarely s e e n n o w a d a y s . I n a p a p e r act it is
a novel diversion,and tho method explained h e r e is m u c h improved,since
only one band is u s e d .
EFFECT. Performer calls a t t e n t i o n to a band of p a p e r , a p p a r e n t l y totally
u n p r e p a r e d . H o cuts this d o w n the contre m a k i n g two bands,.He retains
o n e and gives tho other to a helper, whoc is told to "do as I do"
P e r f o r m e r cuts d o w n the centre of the paper,and the assistant does tho
same. BUT,the assistant now holds t w o seperate rings,whereas the
p e r f o r m e r has o $ l y one ring TWICE THE SIZE. Ho a g a i n cuts this d o w n
t h e centre a third time and obtains two rings linked together.
A n y b o d y w h o follows tho e x p l a n a t i o n wshould have no d i f f i c u l t y
in m a k i n g tho bands quite e a s i l y .
K E T H O D . A double sheet of newspaper cut as in d i a g r a m Fig 1 w i l l m a k e
t w o bands . Cut across tho dotted l i n e .

cvie column of reading m a t t e r
F i g 3. At X end fold- flaps A and B as in d i a g r a m .
F i g 4 . D o u b l e B towards y o u over A as shown.Cut off shaded portion,
r i g 5. Fold tho triangular piece back a w a y from y o u so that it forms
t h e p o s i t i o n s h o w h by tho dotted l i n o .
Fig 6. Bring "Y" end round Now join tho orris together.Stick E on B.
L1 on A..and F.G.H. on dinkum end of p a p e r .
-ERFORMANCE. W h e n exhibiting tho band it is quite a simple m a t t e r
t o c o n c e a l tho triangular flap on inside of the hand.Before cutting
t h o second time it is u n n e c e s s a r y ti state that performer retains
t h e h a l f containing tho fake joint..After cutting the second time
before exhibiting result,performer breaks tho u n c u t p o r t i o n The
main p o r t i o n of the trick is d p n e . . T h e band has only to be cut a
t h i r d time and the result w i l l bo two rings substantially linked
together.

The "Sucker" aper tear.
This is a n always effective i t e m . I n effect p e r f o r m e r toars a sheet

the package and shows tho paper restored. Then he offers to repeat it
and show how it is d o n e . However w h e n he shows the papor restored,
a small bundle (which audience believes is the t o r n pieces) falls to
the floor. After pretending discomfiture, pefiformer picks up this
bundle.Blows on it and shows it r e s t o r e d .
T ake a piece of tissue paper anout 10" x 8 " crumple it into a ball
and attach it to tho corner of a similar sheet (not c r u m p l e d )
W h e n showing tho paper on both sides, the fingers conceal tho ball of
papor b e h i n d . The sheet is torn in small p i e c e s , w h i i h are then "
balled u p and the piece attached to the bundle is twisted around them
Y o u then blow on the bundle and open u p THE BALLED UP BUNDLE.keeping
the bundle of pieces concealed b e h i n d . . W h a n y o u offer to repeat it
y o u carry on as at first,Then w h e n y o u are opening up tho RESTORED

The d e s i g n on this p a g e is for a s t r i p
