1.0INTRODUCTION

OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE: Open-source software (OSS) is computer software that is


available in source code form for which the source code and certain other rights normally reserved for
copyright holders are provided under a software license that permits users to study, change, and
improve the software

HARDWARE: Hardware refers to the physical elements of a computer. Also referred to as the
machinery or the equipment of the computer. Examples of hardware in a computer are the keyboard,
the monitor, the mouse and the processing unit.

SOFTWARE: Software, commonly known as programs, consists of all the electronic instructions
that tell the hardware how to perform a task. These instructions come from a software developer in the
form that will be accepted by the operating system that they are based on. For an example, a program
will designed for the Windows operating system will only work on its system only.

2.0THE LATEST OPENING SOURCE OPERATING SYSTEM (OS)

2.1MEANING OF OPEN SOURCE OS: a program in which the source code is available
to the general public for use and/or modification from its original design free of charge.

2.2EXAMPLE OF OPEN SOURCE OS:

KUBUNTU LINUX: a user friendly operating system based KDE, K Desktop


Enviroment with are predictable 6 month release cycle and part of the Ubuntu Project,
kubuntu is the GNU/Linux distribution for everyone. Improve desktop, update application
and increased usability features as just are few of the surprise with the latest release.
FIDORA LINUX: a Linux based operating system that showcases the latest in free and
open source software. Fidora is always free for anyone to use, modify, and distribute. It is
built by people across the globe who work together as a community: The Fidora Project.
The Fidora Project is open and anyone is welcomed to join.

3.0THE LATEST OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE

3.1MEANING OF OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE: It is an open


source application software is something for which is the source code is available for
download and anyone can modify and release subsequent versions of the same provided. So,
they can mention the version of the source using which they modified it.

3.2EXAMPLE OF OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE:

PHP-Nuke: A program that content management system allowing webmasters to create


community-based portals (websites). The system is fully controlled using a web-based
user interface. PHP-Nuke was originally a fork of the Thatware news portal system. It was
also web-based automated news publishing and content management system based on
PHP and MySQL

Mozilla Firefox: A program that free and open source web browser descended from the
Mozilla Application Suite and managed by Mozilla Corporation. It was second most
popular browser in terms of current use worldwide after Microsoft's Internet Explorer.
Many users still used Mozilla Firefox. Mozilla Firefox also famous in world and fast
searching web sites.

1.0 PERVASIVE COMPUTING

5.1 PERVASIVE COMPUTING: Refers to the use of computers in everyday life, including
PDAs, smartphones and other mobile devices. It also refers to computers contained in commonplace
objects such as cars and appliances and implies that people are unaware of their presence.

5.2 EXAMPLE OF PERVASIVE COMPUTING

PDA: A mobile device which functions Personal information manager and has the
ability to connect to the internet. Also known as a palmtop computer, is a mobile device which
functions as a Personal information manager and has the abiltity to connect to the internet. The
PDA has an electronic visual display enabling it to include a web browser, but some newer
models also have audio capabilities, enabling them to be used as mobile phones

Smartphones: A mobile phone offering advanced capabilities, often with PC-like


functionality (PC-mobile handset convergence).A smartphones is a simply phone with advanced
features like e-mail, internet, and e-book radar capabilities and/or a built in full keyboard or external
USB keyboard and VGA connectors.In other words, it is a miniature computer that has phone
capability.

6.0 CONCLUSION

Open source can be used by anyone and because it has not copyright claims, so user are free to
use, change , lmprove the software and to redistribute it in modified or unmodified forms. pervasive
computing is to make our live easiers because we can interact with computer. Beside that we can
easily give the computer commands and the computer will grant your wish
