UNITS TO BE STUDIED

1. The Individual and Their Culture

This unit of study looks at what culture is and how it should be studied.
We will look at how culture develops and changes, as well as the 7 Patterns
of culture: Family (Kinship), Art, Religion, Recreation, Politics (how societies
make rules and order themselves), Education (how people learn the skills
they need to live in their culture), and Economics (how people go about
meeting their basic needs and the problems they create).

2. The Individual and Their Citizenship

This unit of study will focus on what it means to be a citizen in general,

and more specifically, what it means to be a Canadian citizen. We will take a
look at how citizenship developed in ancient Greece and Rome, how
Canadians become Canadians today, the history of Canada’s government,
how Canada’s governments work, and the individual’s roles and
responsibilities as a Canadian citizen.

3. The Individual and Their Personal Identity

This unit of study will focus on how our personal identity develops and
changes within one’s culture and society. We will take a look at how
environment, roles, family, names, religion, minority status, and media help
develop one’s identity.

4. The Individual and Human Rights

This unit will focus on what it means to have human rights. We will study
the history of human rights, the development of the United Nations after
