Introduction to Literature

Course Outline

This course will enable students to read and critically analyse literature by
providing an introduction to basic literary terms and genres.

Students will be expected to read, analyse and discuss various genres of


literature, such as poetry, short stories, novels and drama

Goals

To critically read and appreciate literature

to identify key elements such as plot, genre, narrative, point-of-view, irony, etc.

understand the importance of character and setting in a novel

to understand how these elements relate to the theme of the work

Pass Mark: 40%

Audit pass : 50% marks + 60% attendance

Attendance Policy: Those with an attendance level of less than 70%


will get one grade less.
