SOFTWARE VALIDATION TEST REPORT FOR MAIN BEARING STIFFNESS

Benchmark for Main Bearing Stiffness Evaluation:

Example, Real life Compressor Bearing Stiffness Calculation from K. E. Atkins/R. X. Perez/D. M. Turner, A
Simple Procedure for Assessing Rotor Stability, Third International Symposium on Transport Phenomena
and Dynamics of Rotating Machinery, April 1990.

Bearing Stiffness Evaluation Program Verification

This section presents a comparison of the program-generated solution with a known solution of a selected
benchmark problem. This provides a confirmation of the adequacy of the program for Bearing Stiffness
Evaluation.

Benchmark Problem

Bearing Stiffness Coefficients Shown in Table 1 obtained by K. E. Atkins/R. X. Perez/D. M. Turner are
compared with results from Systech Consultancy Services [SCS] Bearing Stiffness Evaluation Program [Refer
to Table 3: Benchmark Problem for Journal Bearing Stiffness Calculation on next page].

The results obtained from show good correspondence with those provided by K. E. Atkins/R. X. Perez/D. M.
Turner.

Table 2: Comparison of Bearing Stiffness Coefficients

Bearing Stiffness K. E. Atkins/R. X. Systech Consultancy Services [SCS] Difference
Coefficient Perez/D. M. Turner Bearing Stiffness Evaluation Program
Coefficient Units %
Kxx LB/IN 2.85E+05 2.83E+05 -0.88
Kyy LB/IN 3.79E+05 3.75E+05 -1.06

Hence, calculated Bearing Stiffness Coefficient as per Systech Consultancy Services [SCS] Bearing Stiffness
Evaluation Program are comparable with those provided by K. E. Atkins/R. X. Perez/D. M. Turner and their by
validating Systech Consultancy Services [SCS] Bearing Stiffness Evaluation Program.
