Task 4

The document discusses the development of early writing skills in children and provides examples of activities to support each stage of development. In stage 3, where children are forming strings of letters, suggested activities include using small whiteboards, tracing cards, play dough, Legos, worksheets, fingers, and the iPad to practice forming individual letters through tracing and writing. The goal is to help children develop fine motor skills and learn letter formation following proper directionality from left to right.

Suggestions for the further development of early writing skills

The teacher can provide extra worksheets for students in the literacy center so when they

would like to work they will take the worksheet and work on it.

Provide different apps on the IPad for the students that would support writing skills.

Reflections on Observation Task 4: Development of Early Writing Skills

1. What are developmental writing stages the majority of the students in?

-The majority of the students are in the third stage of developmental writing stage which is string

of letters.

2. Describe and explain two (2) suggested strategies that the teacher can use to help the majority

of the students within their developmental writing stage.

-Two strategies that the teacher can use to help the majority of the students within their developmental writing

stage would be making them practice more often tracing or copying the letter. She should show the students the

correct and simple way of writing the letter so the children would be able to do as the teacher teaches them.

Another strategy that would help the students is integrating the technology and using tablets or smart boards.

Students are interested in technology so it would be an opportunity to teach children writing. They can write

either with their fingers or using a pen that is used for these kind of devices. The students should have the

opportunity to use these devices whenever they want and they should not be supervised by the teacher the whole

time but it needs strict rules and guidance from the teacher and then the teacher is able to let them use them by

themselves.
