For some products, incoming line fuses are required to meet the basic UL listing requirements.
Consult AF-6 Series individual drive Design Guides for fuse recommendations.
The NEC defines several types of control circuits and the overcurrent protection required for each type.
Type Enclosures: IP00, IP20, IP21, IP54, IP55 and IP66
NEMA 1: Enclosures constructed for either indoor or outdoor use to provide a degree of protection to personnel
against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment and to provide a degree of protection against
falling dirt.
NEMA 4: Enclosures constructed for either indoor or outdoor use to provide a degree of protection to personnel
against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment; to provide a degree of protection against falling
dirt, rain, sleet, snow, wind-blown dust, splashing water, hose-directed water, and corrosion; and that will
be undamaged by external formation of ice on the enclosure.
NEMA 12: Enclosures constructed (without knockouts) for indoor use to provide a degree of protection to personnel
against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment; to provide a degree of protection against falling
dirt; against circulating dust, lint, fibers, and flyings; and against dripping and light splashing of liquids.

Dynamic Braking allows for faster deceleration rates then could be achieved via a coast
to stop. Dynamic braking consists of the internal drive brake chopper and separate add-
on dynamic braking resistors.
Important application notes:
- The AF-60 LP Micro Drive dynamic braking can be used for stopping a load with an
inertia equal to or less than the applied motor's rotor inertia.
- High inertia or overhauling loads may cause extended deceleration times which could
cause overheating and tripping of the drive.
- The dynamic braking is not a holding brake. It does not prevent a motor at rest from
rotating.
Note: Refer to the drives' Operating Instruction for installation and connection details.

Line/Load Reactors
Up to 600V
Motor Protection
Reactors help to protect motors from the high peak voltages and
fast rise times (dv/dt) which can be experienced in IGBT inverter
applications when the distance between the inverter and motor
is long.
Harmonic Reduction
Because all standard GE Line/Load reactors are compensated for
harmonics (current and frequency), they are extremely effective
at reducing the amount of harmonics which are produced by
a drive/inverter. Use 5% impedance, harmonic compensated
reactors for best reaction of harmonic distortion.
Agency Approvals
GE line reactors are UL recognized.
All UL approvals are for USA and Canada.
UL-506 File #E191687 (1 amp-1200 amps)
UL-508 File #E191686 (1 amp-1200 amps)

Capacitors, Arrestors and Harmonic Filters
For Input or Output of Adjustable Speed Drive/Inverter Systems
*For higher or lower current ratings, consult factory.
*For other voltages or frequencies, consult factory. Single phase reactors are also available, consult factory for proper selection.
This table is suitable for selection of both input and output reactors because their harmonic compensation and IGBT protection
allow them to be used in either application. Specific current and inductance ratings are indicated on next page. Consult factory
for any special applications (higher current, motor rating different than controller rating, etc.)
Select GE Line/Load reactors based upon motor horsepower, (or kilowatts) and voltage. Verify that the motor full load ampere rating
is within the fundamental current rating of the reactor, and the drive/inverter rating is within the maximum continuous rating of the reactor
(See next page).

Matrix Series D Harmonic Filters
Matrix Harmonic filters provide broadband reduction of harmonics.
Matrix Harmonic Filters not only offer better performance over
other broad band filtering and 18-pulse harmonic reduction tech-
niques, they are also suitable for a wider range of applications.
Matrix Harmonic Filters can be installed in either variable or
constant torque drive applications and can be applied on either
diode or SCR rectifiers. For any application other than variable
torque applications, it is suggested that you contact the factory
for filter selection.
Typical Applications
Use Matrix Harmonic filters to minimize harmonic current distor- The Matrix D Filters typically achieve 5% THID at full load and

voltage and current distortion limits outlined in IEEE 519. A complete
harmonic analysis and product selection tool is available on
the internet. Go to geindustrial.com and select Products, select
Capacitors, choose Matrix Harmonic Filter and then select Energy
Savings Calculator and Harmonic Estimator.
Matrix Harmonic Filters are multi-stage low pass filters specially
configured to avoid the attraction of harmonics from other
sources on a shared power system. Matrix filters will not cause
power system resonance. However, the configuration of the filter
requires that only drives or equivalent loads be loaded on the
output of a Matrix harmonic filter. One filter can be used with
multiple drives. However, if there is a drive bypass circuit, there
must be one filter per drive and the filter and drive combination
must be bypassed.
Matrix Harmonic Filters are available in a NEMA 1, NEMA 3R or
as a modular design preassembled onto panels for subsequent
assembly into customer supplied cabinet.

Matrix Series D Harmonic Filters
Selection Table
Matrix D, 480 VAC, 60 HZ, Three Phase, Variable Torque
Applications
Select Matrix filters based on the horsepower (or kilowatt) rating for the adjustable speed
drive or the combined currrent rating of all motors to be connected to the load side of
the filter. For variable torque, DC drive or other applications consult factory for proper
filter selection.
Source Impedance
If the source impedance is less than 1.5% impedance, it is required that an input reactor
of at least 1.5% impedance be added in order to have guaranteed performance level.
For best value and performance it is recommended that a 3% line reactor be used
whenever the source impedance is less than 1.5%.

Europe and the CE Marking: Questions and Answers
Q: What is the CE marking? Q: What are the applicable directives for adjustable
speed drives?
A: The CE marking is the European Unions (EU) mark of compli-
ance to one or more directives which have been enacted by the A: Currently there are three (3) directives which are commonly
Council of the European Communities and should be affixed to known to be applicable to industrial control equipment in general
products, packages, and/or instructions according to the terms of and to adjustable speed drives in particular. They are:
the applicable directives for products placed on the market within Machinery Directive: 89/392/EEC
the member countries of the EU.
as amended by: 91/368/EEC
Q: What countries are members of the EU? 93/44/EEC
A: There are presently 15 member countries in the EU (formerly 93/68/EE
called the European Community, or EC). They are, (in alphabetical
order): Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Low Voltage Directive: 73/23/EEC
Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, as amended by: 93/68/EEC
Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Four other countries, Iceland, EMC Directive: 89/336/EEC
Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, comprise the European The directives do not contain detailed technical requirements,
Free Trade Association (EFTA) whose members retain national but rather state the basic essential requirements that the equip-
laws with mandatory marks. Some of these countries have ment must be safe (in the case of the machinery and low voltage
applied for membership in the EU. directives) or that it must neither interfere with nor be disrupted
Q: What does a country have to do to become by surrounding equipment (EMC directive). Detailed technical
a member of the EU? requirements are left to the referenced ENs (European norms)
which confer a presumption of compliance with the directives.
A: The European Union is much more than a trade agreement Unfortunately, when an EN is published, it does not automatically
such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) offer this presumption of compliance for a particular product
