Biology and Genetics, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics
Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field that applies information technology to study living organisms at the molecular level, involving biology, computer science, mathematics and statistics. It has various applications including homology, protein function analysis, personalized medicine, gene therapy, drug development, comparative studies and climate change. Modern biological and medical research generates extremely large data sets that require bioinformatics to analyze data that cannot be done by hand, such as sequencing human genomes. Future applications of bioinformatics are expected in biology, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, medicine, and agriculture.

SCOPE
Bioinformatics is the application of information technology to study living organisms mostly
at molecular level. Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field mainly involving molecular biology and genetics, computer science, mathematics, and statistics. Bioinformatics has various application in the field of homology, protein function analysis, personalised medicine, Gene therapy, Drug development, Comparative Studies and also climate change studies. Current biological and medical labs use methods that produce extremely large data sets, which cannot be analysed by hand - for instance sequencing human genomes. Thus, modern biological and medical research and development cannot be done without bioinformatics. Future applications of bioinformatics are in biology, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, medicine, and agriculture.
