COMMON GUIDELINES

Dear students,

These are the common guidelines to be followed for preparation of your dissertation report, you
please accommodate your work in the format specified below:

Each page should have header and footer


o Header Project Name (LHS) and Page No (RHS)
o Footer - BMSIT&M(LHS) and 2017-18 (RHS)
Use Times New Roman Font type
All the main headings should be 16 Bold
All the sub headings should be 14 Bold
All running text should be 12 Justified and 1.5 line spacing
Do not underline
Each chapter should start with a new page and should have a chapter number
All the abbreviations has to be expanded when they are used for the first time and can be
abbreviated in further use
Abstract , list of figures, list of tables, abbreviations, conclusions and references are not
chapters i.e they wont have a chapter number
There should be a specified number of chapters each of them according to the
software development life cycle, the chapters and the order of arrangement of
documents is as specified: ( each starts in new page)

Cover Page
Title page (inner cover) - title of project , name of candidate Logo of BMSIT&M etc.,
Certificate from the supervisor
Acknowledgements
Abstract - (1page) abstract specification of the project
Table of contents
List of Symbols & Abbreviations used
List of figures
List of tables

o Brief Introduction
o Motivation
o Scope
o Statement of Problem
o Limitation of Project

Chapter 2: Requirement specification containing


o Functional requirements
o Non functional requirements
o Domain constraints
Chapter 3: System Analysis or Requirement Analysis containing
o The overall process of project diagram and description
o Mapping of requirements to the subsystems or modules chosen
o The emergent functionalities of the system
Chapter 4: System Design containing
o Architectural design ER Diagram with Cardinality Ratio and participation
o Component design Schema Diagram
o Behavioral design Application Design and Connectivity
Chapter 6: Implementation contains
o Description of the DBMS used
o Description of Integrated Development Environment (IDE) used for application
Chapter 7: Testing contains
o The component test test cases and results
o System test test cases and results
Chapter 8:Intrepratation of Results contains
o Snap shots of the project working and its description
Conclusion (1page) concluding your work stating the value addition your work is
doing from the existing system

Future Enhancements: - states the further enhancements that can be incorporated in
your work

Appendix/ces (optional)
Bibliography (References) contains
o Books referred in the format : [1] TCP for Transaction, Http, NNTp and the UNIX
(Domain Protocols, Tcp/Ip) Illustrated By Richard Stevens
o Research papers referred in the format : [2] Anklesaria, F., McCahill, M., Lindner, P.,
Johnson, D., Torrey, D. and B. Alberti, The Internet Gopher Protocol (a distributed
document search and retrieval protocol), RFC 1436, March 1993
o Websites referred specify complete URL (no wikipedia and google)
Glossary(optional) contains
o Technical terms & meanings
o Abbreviations
o Metrics and Measures Eg: Mbps, Hz etc., with description

Note: All the chapters and the documents specified are mandatory except Appendix/ces
and Glossary but the content will change according to your project
