Router Assignment 3

This document outlines the network design and implementation plan for Acme Real Estate's three branch offices. The network will connect the Perth, Mandurah, and Bunbury offices using various WAN links. The Perth office will contain file and web servers to serve the intranet site and files. Switches will be configured at each site to segment data and voice traffic. Routers will connect the sites and IP addressing schemes defined. Testing plans include validating equipment functionality on-site and connectivity between locations. Security measures like additional links and a management VLAN are recommended to harden the network.

Workplace narrative:
Acme Real Estate has asked you to setup the network infrastructure at three branch offices (the
Perth office, the Mandurah office and the Bunbury office). The senior network administrator at
Acme has provided you with the following description of the network to be built.

Proposed Network
Acme has access in three cities:

Perth
Mandurah
Bunbury

There is only one site at each of the three cities.

Perth is the largest site and contains the management team. Perth is also the location for two
servers: a file server and a web server. The web server is the company intranet web site.

Each site has switches connected to the site routers. These switches are essential and you must
configure the switches as well as providing WAN access. You are also required to allow the use
of VOIP for all sites. You must allow for a domain: Acme and have workstation on each
segment connect to the domain controller.

We have three links:

Perth to Mandurah: 512K DSL

Mandurah to Bunbury: 512K DSL
Perth to Bunbury: 64K DSL

There is a server farm in Perth that has the following servers:

Server 1 is a HTTP server using IIS on Windows 2008.

Server 2 is an FTP server on Windows 2008

Server 3 is a Domain Controller on Windows 2008

5
Security strategy / design enhancement
possible security solutions:
Add an additional leg in Perth

Add a Management VLAN to restrict access to the server from inside the Perth office as the

Perth router limits access from computers outside the Perth location but leaves Perth open to
inside attacks or sabotage from personnel.

(Bottom uptesting) Things to test is the wires to ensure that they have no visible damage and that
they are sending and receiving packets. Important to check the Items before taking it to the place
in which its going to be set up enter all information into switches and routers ahead of time.
Trace route can be used to check the connections this logs the traffic on each leg.

Methods of testing connectivity and testing the network.

Testing plan Testing methods

1 Test cables
2 Test I.P connection through pings

4 show ip route
5 Debug

Three phases of testing :

Test the emulator enter the IP addresses the subnets etc. on the emulator make sure that
everything works on the emulator

Test on the equipment to ensure that the equipment works

Test the equipment in the final location the workplace
