NCCP
The 50th year anniversary of the NCCP calls for a celebration. Jubilee year comes only once in
a lifetime for most of us. This is no ordinary feat for an institution who has been to the
turbulence of changing milieus. Yet we have emerged with head up high. The Lord has
walked alongside with us in this journey for building a society where jubilee is an
experienced reality and where everyone, not only a small segment of our community,
experiences life in all its fullness (John 10:10).
As we stand at the threshold of the next 50 years, let us be reminded of the present
debilitating contradictions of our time grinding poverty among urban and rural
communities while those in high places of government lavish in perverted funds from the
people; escalating plunder of our ecology in the midst of large-scale disasters happening
every now and then claiming thousands of lives; militaristic solution and violence towards
ordinary Moro people and indigenous peoples. This is just to name a few. Contradictions in
our country abound in many forms and kinds.
This is just to say that the jubilee we fervently long to celebrate is still a vision awaiting
realization. The task at hand is great. The fields are gold but the workers are few indeed.
Occasions like this allow us to peek, from a distance, the beautiful image of jubilee. May this
celebration of NCCP Sunday turn our eyes and minds to the situations of the marginalized.
Let us imagine jubilee and wok for its concretization.
The NCCP will hold steadfastly to the mandates of the Christian vision of Jubilee. NCCP
Sunday will be a venue to collectively organize our communities and congregations for that
realization of our common vision as one Body of Christ, overcoming obstacles of differences.
Jesus prayer of unity to those who believe is a missional imperative, that all may be one
so that the world may believe. (John 17: 25)
Truly we found hope in our unity. NCCP Sunday is an expression of our unity. Let us indeed
celebrate this concrete unity.

Jubilee Celebration of NCCP

PRELUDE
SILENT MEDITATION
O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and You will not listen? Or cry to You, Violence! and
you will not save? Why do You make me see wrong-doing and look at trouble? Destruction
and violence are before me; strife and contention arise. So the law becomes slack and justice
never prevails. The wicked surround the righteoustherefore judgment comes forth
perverted. (Habakkuk 1:2-4)
PROCESSIONAL
CHORAL INTROIT
People Share your food with the hungry and open your homes to the homeless poor.
Give clothes to those who have nothing to wear, and do not refuse to help your
own relatives.
Liturgist Then My favor will shine on you like the morning sun, and your wounds will be
quickly healed. I will always be with you to save you; My presence will protect you
on every side.
People When you pray, I will answer you. When you call Me, I will respond.
Liturgist If you put an end to oppression, to every gesture of contempt, and to every evil
word;
People If you give food to the hungry and satisfy those who are in need, then the
darkness around you will turn to the brightness of noon.
Liturgist And I will always guide you and satisfy you with good things. I will keep you
strong and well. You will be like a garden that has plenty of water, like a spring of
water that never runs dry.

NCCP SUNDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2013
Reader: Lord, through Your constant guidance and leading, NCCP has persevered to be
faithful to Your calling in becoming Your witness here in our nation. We thank You because
for 50 years, all of NCCPs service for the Filipino people were possible because of You.
Without You, O God, NCCPs efforts would have been futile. Because of Your faithfulness,
accept this symbol, this gesture, that we, the NCCP, will be offering to You.
This symbolic gesture, O Lord, entails the following: a dove symbolizing the Filipino people;
the cage, entrapping the dove symbolizes the injustices and the evils that plague all
Filipinos, such as graft and corruption, adequate learning and education unreachable to the
poor, employment benefits withheld from workers, health aid unavailable to those who are
sick, housing projects that are inaccessible to the homeless, misuse of indigenous peoples
lands, the abuse of women and children, unavailability of decent work, and many more. The
Filipino people have been suffering for many years now because of these social injustices
and evils.
Now, in the midst of all these hardships, NCCP, through Gods leading, has responded to the
nations anguish. NCCP has constantly been desiring Gods rule to materialize here in this
country. NCCP reaches out to those who are in need, those who are oppressed, those who
are seeking justice, becoming to them the Lords comfort and a prophetic voice in the midst
of all these torment. NCCP seeks for a Filipino nation that is free from all of these injustices
and evils. In the quest to fulfill this, NCCP strives to continue this God-given work.
[A volunteer, wearing the pair of white gloves and NCCP shirt, will carefully open the cage
and gently handle the dove out of the cage. The dove will NOT yet be released at this point.]
[The NCCP representative will now release the dove from his hands.]
Reader: It will not be easy, but NCCP, by Gods grace, is willing to bear that cross, until the
day Your kingdom has materialized completely over all Your creation, O Lord.

SILENT MEDITATION

Liturgy 2
50th Jubilee Celebration
Theme: Holding high the tapestry of justice and peace
Call To Worship
(A bell/gong/trumphet is sounded or an instrument is played or a celebratory dance)
Leader: Let us praise God with gladness, in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
All: O, Lord of the Universe, liberate us from all bondage from the bondage of fear,
poverty, and unhappy mind. Show us your light for we are blind travelers in the darkness of
the night.
NCCP SUNDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2013
O, Lord of the Universe, grant us Page 9 of 34 freedom from weakness, with your
grace awaken our feeble minds and show us your light, for we are
travelers in the night.
O, Lord of the Universe, grants us freedom from selfishness and strengthen our hearts with
your love and make our minds strong for we are travelers in the darkness of the night.
Leader: Let us reflect in silence the meaning of being travelers in this universe as we face
the many challenges in life while struggling our best to hold high the tapestry of justice and
peace.
A moment of Silence. Then the assigned persons will bring to the front the logo of NCCP if
possible with a stand.
Leader: With humble hearts, we gather together in gratefulness to the Lord as we shout our
joy of thanksgiving to our God the Creator, the Liberator and Sanctifier that lead NCCP to
reach fifty years in Gods service!
Leader: We bless you Lord with your kindness and guidance that through the years you let
NCCP be able to stand head high amidst the challenges of times and let her continue to serve
you with gladness in our hearts.
Leader: We have lighted 50 candles to symbolize the fifty years of existence of the National
Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP). Let us be reminded of the First Officers of
the Council who by their efforts and faith caused the Council to have a face and pioneered in
the ecumenical movement of churches in the Philippines.
People: We are honored to remember the Original Member Churches and their Leaders,
who in their times had crossed and bridged boundaries of churches various faith traditions,
practices and experiences. With strong hope and resolve, they believed that their
differences would not hinder the unity of churches they envisioned in the future; that their
strong will and accord would make others to follow; that their good intention to live out the
prayer of our Lord, Jesus Christ, That they may all be one (John 17:21) would become a
legacy for the coming generations.
All: We bless their names and the legacy they entrusted to us. We are very grateful to our
God of history, who by his guidance and grace allowed NCCP to happen, to be a reality, and to
be instrument of Gods promise abundance of life; that by its continuing ministry to the poor,
the needy, and the victims of injustices; that by its advocacy for justice and peace and
integrity of creation, NCCP is able to live out its leaders legacy.
Leader: We thank you, O God, for the privilege to be instruments of your promise life
abundance here on earth. Let us be able to keep it and live out your calling with joyful
hearts.

holding high the tapestry of justice and peace toward life abundance.
And the blessing Shalom of the Triune God be with us all and dwell in us, now and forever
more. AMEN!

depending those who will use it however, please retain the flow of the liturgy as it is
intended that way..
2. Instead of just reading the Leaders names and the Member Churches in the blanks
above, provide a list at the end of the liturgy or insert a brief NCCP history materials and
kindly mentioned and give respect to the leaders and significant people in the beginning
and the trying times of NCCPs life and ministry.
3. Those who will used this liturgy may or add other spice like a dance instead of a song or
hymn that will give more meanings to the whole conduct of the liturgy.
4. It is observed that in NCCP documents less or no mention of the First Chairperson, His
Eminence, the Most Reverend Isabelo delos Reyes who during his time as NCCP
Chairperson offered the lot in UP Diliman Campus for IFI Minisrty (now is where Church
of the Risen Lord stands) in honor and legacy of the Ecumenical Movement in the
Philippines spearheaded by the NCCP. The place where CRL now was where the IFI UP-

congregated, worshipped and had the Student Chaplaincy Ministry. To affirm this, the
name of the street where CRL located is Aglipay Street (You can verify, thanks.)

PAGPAPATIBAY NG PANANAMPALATAYA
Ang Sumasampalaaya
Sumasampalataya ako sa Dios, Amang makapangyarihan sa lahat; lumalang ng langit at lupa;

Theme:
Holding High the Tapestry of Justice and Peace in a Broken World
INTRODUCTION:
(Instrumental music may be played while the people sit in silence for a few minutes)
NCCP SUNDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2013
Leader: We are gathered here today in the presence of God in order to offer our united
praise and thanksgiving for the Jubilee Year (50 th) of the National Council of Churches in the
Philippines popularly known as NCCP.
The NCCP is the largest aggrupation of mainline non-Roman and Protestant Churches in the
Philippines. As a Council of Page 24 of 34
Churches, its mission revolves
around the protection and defense of human rights, promotion of justice
and the pursuit of genuine and lasting peace in world of unpeace. It journeys with the lost,
the least and the last in their daily struggle for a better life. As enshrined in its vision, the
Council shall continue working and striving for a more abundant and more humane life.
This is indeed an opportune time not only to remember and reminisce but more importantly
to re-live the spirit of oikoumene as the reason for being of this noble Council since its
advent five decades ago.
Let us now sing a composition of Mr. Joy Nilo for this special occasion.
Leader: Please sit down and listen to what God is saying to us now.
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
Leader: We continue to affirm our Page 25 of 34 conciliar faith by saying together
Where there are no unchanging laws, no natural order of violence and hatred, experts and
uninformed rulers and ruled. We believe in God who wills in the contradictions of living, and
call us to change situations through our work, our ministry, through our spiritualities.
We recognize in the comparison how crippled is our imagination, how wasted our efforts,
because we do not live as he lived.
We believe in Jesus Christ, who worked for change and died for it. We see him buried in our
world, in our churches, because we have betrayed his revolution out of disobedience or fear.
We believe in Jesus Christ, rising in our lives, freeing us from prejudice and presumption,
from fear and hatred, to carry on His works, for revolution towards the coming of his
kingdom.
We believe in the Spirit, who gives nourishment and life towards the realization of Gods
Kingdom.
We seek to live with dignity, within the justness of peace in our responsibility to realize it
against the forces that destroy it, that the image of God within us be realized.
We believe in the just peace, as part of the continuing struggle in our vision for a new social
order.
OFFERTORY
Leader: Give the Lord the honor due his Name, bring offerings and come into his courts.
(Here special offering envelopes are collected and brought to the altar).
NCCP SUNDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2013
People: All that is in heaven and earth are yours, and of your own do we give you. Amen.
OUR FATHER
Leader: The Lord is here.
Leader: As our Savior has taught us, with confidence we pray in our native tongue,
Together: Our Father in heaven, holy be your name Your Kingdom come, your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
And lead us not into temptation but deliver your from evil. For yours is the kingdom, the
power and the glory forever. Amen.
SUFFRAGES
Leader: Show us your mercy, O Lord.
Our Parent-God, you blessed Son came not to be served but to serve, not to be ministered
unto but to minister. We beseech you to bless the leaders, members, associate members and
staffs of the National Council of Churches in the Philippines, that, following His steps, give
themselves to the service of your people. Endue them with wisdom, patience and courage to
strengthen the weak and raise those who fall; that, being inspired by your love, they may
minister in your Name to the suffering, the friendless and the needy. Grant us grace
fearlessly to contend against evil, and to make no peace with oppression; and that we may
reverently use our freedom, in the furtherance of justice among all peoples and nations;
through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
BENEDICTION
Clergy present: People of God, go now, recognizing that the equal and inalienable rights of
all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the
world. Let each one of us commit ourselves to the defense of human dignity in the name of
God + who creates . . .Jesus +who liberates . . .and the Holy Spirit + who unites.
People: Amen! Amen! Amen!
CLOSING HYMN:
UNANG ALAY, UNANG TUWA
ni Manolet Agoncillo
Introduction
Our passage tells us that Jesus came that we may have life, and have it to the full. What is
fullness of life? Fullness of life is envisioned by NCCP as a just, egalitarian, self-reliant,
and sustainable society. These are the indicators of our general well being, and these
encompass not merely the economic, but also social, political, and religious dimensions.
Fullness of life is about experiencing the God of holiness, justice and love who liberates us
from all forms of oppression; seeing every person as an image of God; being able to decide
and secure our future; and finding our human dignity which is rooted in the humanity of
Jesus.
Today, let us re-imagine our vision of the Jubilee by looking at Jesus agenda of fullness of life
as expressed in The Lord's Prayer, which is essentially a liturgical form of the Jubilee. The
Lords Prayer "describes a community that recognizes God as its source of life, and a
community that lives all of life in relation to God."
Application. As a community of God's children, to call God "Our Father" means we should
banish any form of gender inequality. Violence against another person is violence against
God, and exclusion of women is exclusion of God.
NCCP SUNDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2013
Application. We all have the possibility of being instruments of Gods justice. Jubilee is
fullness of life for allfor women and men; for pastors and lay people; for public witness and
quiet witness; for mature members and young people. Jubilee should run through in our
lives. All of us are endowed with the grace of God which sets the oppressed free; which
makes all peoples equal.
A. Present Context. Advocacies: Enough is enough; live simply so that others may
simply live; more with less.
B. Biblical context. This jubilee prayer "recognizes that basic resources are not justly
distributed, that many lack adequate access to what they need to sustain life, and that
some procure excessive bread by unjust means which deprive others."
C. "Give us this day our daily bread" urges us to act in solidarity in order that the rich
will stop hoarding wealth, and to resist the huge gap between the rich and the poor.
D. Illustration. "Being is not Having." Jesus resisting greed and materialism, in Luke
12:15, he said that life does not consist in the abundance of possessions. He
illustrated this new way of being in the parable of the rich fool (Luke 12:16-21).
NCCP SUNDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2013
Application. In our globalized world, there is no fullness of life when life itself is reduced as
the ultimate commodity of free trade and deregulated commerce, where the only
accountability is money. Globalization has united all people towards a common quest for
material gratification, like the rich fool. There is no fullness of life when our life relationships
are no longer defined in relation to God, but by the market. There is no fullness of life when
we substitute our yearning for God for an insatiable desire for some new consumer good,
like new car, new TV, and new electronic gadgets. It was Mahatma Gandhi who said, The
earth provides enough to satisfy Page 30 of 34 every mans need, but not any
ones greed.
Conclusion
Our vision of fullness of life is a shared struggle and a shared vision. There is a story
mentioned by Nelson Mandela: A traveller through a country would stop at a village and he
didn't have to ask for food or for water. Once he stops, the people give him food and attend
him. That is one aspect of Ubuntu, but it will have various aspects. Ubuntu does not mean
that people should not enrich themselves. The question therefore is: Are you going to do so
in order to enable the community around you to be able to improve?
NCCP SUNDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2013
As we end our reflection, let us ponder on a poem entitled Cry justice which captures our
Jubilee vision.
