Name: Alyaa Naser Grade Level: Grade 1

CCSS Standards:
1PA1 recognize, read and describe patterns in a range of familiar environments

Main Lesson Aims (Concepts, Procedures, & Processes):

The students will be able to recognize the patterns.

The students will be able to read the patterns.
The students will be able to describe the patterns.

Materials:

teacher books

student book(s) Student Book pages 50 51 (Teacher Guide Lesson 1: Recognizing and reading
patterns (1)

worksheets/ papers -Numbers sheets have the symbols and written words of the numbers. They are
laminated and they prepared depends on the students' levels.
- Worksheets about patterns.

rules. For example shapes and colors.

Repeat - Something repeated; repetition.

- To do or say something again.

Students Prior Knowledge:

In KG2, students recognized patterns independently rather than having the process being teacher led.
Possible Problems and Misconceptions:

1- If the some students have struggle describing or read the patterns.

2- Having problem of sharing the materials.

3- If some students misbehave during the lesson.

Solutions:

1- The teacher will ask the students what is the pattern that you make or what are the colors that you
have? (Describing the patterns). She will ask them to say what you see as they point to the objects
in the sequence.(Reading the patterns)

2- The teacher will remind the students that they have to share with their partners.

3- The teacher will remind them about the classroom rules and she will do some strategies that they
know it.

Lesson Schedule
Targeted teacher language:
Pattern repeat

Student language:
Pattern repeat

Engage (warm up, review prior knowledge): time:

5 minutes
The students teacher will introduce the lesson by saying today we are going to learn about
patterns. She will explain the meaning of 2 key words (Pattern repeat) by using two flash
cards on the board. The student teacher will introduce about the meaning of the word pattern
by demonstrating some examples include shapes and some things in the class show pattern.
Also, she will draw some different shapes that don't represent the pattern and ask the
students "is it pattern?" She will ask them to say why isn't a pattern? She will point to one of
the examples of pattern and say it repeats which means the same thing again. She will give
some students chances to make their patterns to let the other students recognize the
meaning of the patterns.
Core (introduce and practice new concepts & procedures): 35 minutes
The student teacher will ask the students to go to their groups and their books will be there. -
- She will ask them to open page 50 , she will discuss with them about which one is pattern
and which one isn't pattern and why.She will use the comport (Data show ) to show the math
book (pages).

-She will model how to describe and read the pattern. Next, she will ask the students some
questions to guide them in order to read and describe the patterns in the book. For example,
what are the colors that you have? (Describing the patterns) and say what you see as they
point to the objects in the sequence.(Reading the patterns).

-When they will finish two pages (50 and 51), the student teacher will ask them to collect
their books and she will put the materials on their tables.

- She will put the number sheets for each group depends on their levels and put the
appropriate manipulative for them. For example, 1 to 5 for emerging students and they will
count the plastic circles and make color patterns for four and five numbers. She will use the
number sheets in order to review about the numbers lesson and to give the students the
opportunity to recognize the patterns.

- She will ask them to share the materials and work in pairs that to guide them to share
their ideas and discuss about the patterns they made.

-The number sheets for developing students from 10 to 20 and for master students randomly
numbers from 20 to 100.

-She will ask them to show the numbers by using the materials and make their patterns. For
example, she will ask the students to collect 10 cubes with the color pattern green yellow
..etc.

- She will walk around the students and help the students if they need and explain to them
why they make something wrong.

Close (wrap up, discussion, brief review activity or assessment): 5 minutes

The student teacher will provide small worksheets to the students that have questions about patterns.
The worksheet like assessment for the students and the questions are depends on their levels. For
instance, for emerging students they will circle the patterns only in order to assess them if they recognize
what is pattern. For developing students the questions will be the same for emerging students but they
have to say why. For master students the question will be drawing anything in the class that has pattern
to assess them if they can recognize, describe, read patterns of familiar things around them.
