t2 4
1- The function x( t ) is
t3 t
a) Even ; b) Odd ; c) Neither even nor odd ; d) The given
information is not enough to find its type

2- The relationship between the fundamental angular frequency and fundamental

period T is
a) = T / 2 ; b) = 2T; c) = 2 / T ; d) T= /
6 n
3- The fundamental period N for the sinusoidal signal x [ n ] sin( 1 ) is
7
a) 6/7 ; b) /7; c) 7 ; d) It is not periodic

4- The unit step function is related to Dirac delta function (unit impulse) via
t
a) u( t ) ( ) d ; b) u( t ) ( t ) d ; c) u( t ) 0 ( t n ) ; d) None of

above

5- x(t) (or x[n]) is said to be an energy signal (or sequence) if and only if
a) 0 < E < and P = 0; b) 0 < P < and E = ; c) Both P < and E < ;
d) Both P = E = 0

e ( t 5 ) dt , you get
2t
6- If you evaluate
0
a) 0; b) 1; c) e-10 ; d) e-10 (t-5)

7- The frequency shifting property (complex modulation) of Fourier transform is

a) x( t t 0 ) e j w t X ( ) ; b) e j w t x( t ) X ( 0 ) ; c) x( at ) X ( / a ) ;
0 0

d) x( t ) X ( )
8- The continuous-time LTI system is causal if
a) h(t) = 0 when t < 0 ; b) h(t) 0 when t < 0; c) h(t) = 0 when t 0 ;
d) h(t) 0 when t 0

a)
k
x [ k ] ; b)
k
h[k ] ; c)
k
y [ k ] ; d)
k

Q2/ Determine whether the below systems are memoryless, causal, linear, time invariant,
2
or stable (explain). y(t)=2 x(t)+3 x (t-1)
Solution
1- This system has memory because the output y(t) depends on previous value of input x(t-1)
2- This is causal system because output y(t) depends on current and previous value of input x(t) and it
does not depends on the future value of the input.
3- Linearity : y(t) = a1 y1(t) + a2 y2(t)= [ a1 x1(t) + a2 x2(t)]. 1
y(t) = 2 [ a1 x1(t) + a2 x2(t)]+ 3 [ a1 x1(t) + a2 x2(t)]2 =
=2a1 x1(t) + 2a2 x2(t)]+ 3 a12 x1(t)2 +3 a22 x2(t)2 + 6a1 a2 x1(t) x2(t)] . 2
Eq 1 Eq 2 System is not linear. Or simply it is nonlinear system due to the term x2 in the
input parts
4- This is time invariant system as any time shift in input will cause the same time shift in output
Time shift in input = 2 x(t-t0)+3 x2(t-t01)..1
Time shift n output y(t-t0) = 2 x(t-t0)+3 x2(t-t01) .2 Eq 1 = Eq 2 System is time invariant.
5- This is stable system because it is BIBO system any bounded input produces bounded output .
x(t) < Bx then y(t) < By < 2Bx+3Bx2 .. System is stable
