RULES AND REGULATION
REGULATION
1. Dress code: SMART CASUAL (E.g. T-shirt and long pants), slippers, short pants and
sleeveless shirts are not allowed. Strictly be reminded that players who disobey the dress
code will be PROHIBITED to participate in the cocu day.
2. For individual players, please bring along 2 pieces of blank 13x13 recording sheets.
3. Do not bring food or snacks to the competition room. However, you may take your food
or snacks to the rest area.
4. Cell phones and MP3 players are prohibited.
5. Do not disturb other players while the game is in progress. (E.g. avoid making
unnecessary noises, throwing the stones or scrubbing the stones.)
6. Players shall not move the stone once it is placed unless the stone is captured.
7. Players need to keep the stones back to the containers or bowls after the result has been
properly counted and acknowledged by referee.
8. Give a bow to the opponent(s) before and after the game.
9. Bad sportsmanship is prohibited. For example, Black player is showing advantage in the
game but has disadvantage in time. The game will be ended once the dame have been
filled up. Thus, White player should not play any unnecessary moves to intentionally use
up the time of Black player.
10. If have any enquiries during the game, please pause the clock and request for the help
from referee.
GENERAL RULES
1. Swiss format will be applied. Players are required to complete 5 rounds of games.
2. All games will be played on 13x13 board.
3. Japanese rule will be applied. 5.5 komi will be given to the white players.
4. Timing
a) Individual
i. First 3 rounds ABSOLUTE 20 MINUTES will be given to each player. The player
will lose the game if he or she exceeded this allocated time.
ii. Last 2 rounds Extra 10 minutes will be given to the players on first 4 tables for
game recording purpose, making in total an ABSOLUTE TIME OF 30 MINUTES.
Player will lose the game if this time is exceeded.
b) Pair Go & Team Go ABSOLUTE 25 MINUTES will be given to each side. Player will
lose the game if the time is exceeded.
c) Player will lose the game if he or she is LATE BY 10 MINUTES after the game has
started.
5. Ranking
The rankings are determined by primary scores, SOS and SOSOS. When players have equal
primary scores, SOS will be applied and then followed by SOSOS. If the players had met in
past round, player who won the game will be the winner. Otherwise, both players will share
the same ranking.
**SOS = Sum of Opponents Score; SOSOS = Sum Of Sum of Opponents Score
6. Final result of game must be judged by a referee. Self-declaration of the results without a
referee is PROHIBITED.
PAIR GO RULES
2. Communication
i. Partners must NOT communicate, give advice, or exchange other information by speech,
gestures, mannerisms, or any other means except playing moves. If an illegal exchange of
information between partners is observed to take place, the offending pair forfeits the
game.
ii. Speaking is permitted, however, to confirm whose turn it is to play or confer about
resigning.
**Conferring about resigning: the player to move may ask for his or her partners consent to resign;
the partner may agree or not agree to resign.
3. Rotation error
i. Whenever a rotation error is detected, the next player must return to ORIGINAL rotation.
Failure to do so is regarded as a new rotation error.

ii. If there is a rotation error either was intentionally or unintentionally, the game will
continue with a 3-POINT PENALTY for the claimed rotation error.
iii. The pair who claimed the rotation error MORE THAN 3 TIMES will lose the game.
4. The game stops when there are 2 consecutive passes (agreement among all 4 players).
TEAM GO RULES
2. Each player is required to play 3 MOVES on the board for each turn. The game will continue
to be played by repeating the same cycle of rotation until the end of the game.
3. Players are NOT ALLOWED TO PAUSE the clock while doing the discussion with the
team members. For example, although the white player is not yet ready, the black player is
allowed to continue the game and press the clock after placing the first move.
4. Discussion
i. Team members are permitted to make discussion at the specific discussion area without
disturbing the players in the game.
ii. Team members must not communicate, give advice, or exchange other information by
speech, gestures, mannerisms, or any other means to the player in the game.
5. Team members (except the players in the game) should remain on their discussion area while
playing the game. Each team may send one or two players to stay out of the discussion area to
act as the observer for the team.
6. The game stops when there are consecutive passes by BOTH TEAM LEADERS.
7. Final result of game should be judged by a referee and under the supervision of both team
leaders.
