1. Introduction
Users of Digilent boards and peripheral modules must sometimes create custom circuitry including breakout boards, daughter
boards and user-defined modules in order to meet project requirements.
Multisim and Ultiboard provide a complete solution for the development of such custom PCB boards and, to speed up the
design process, NI engineers created reference designs and templates of some of the most popular Digilent devices.
Please note that although these files are intended to be as accurate as possible and have been checked by Applications
Engineers at National Instruments, it is recommended to closely check the documentation provided with the hardware
purchase. It is always suggested that you reference materials associated with the hardware to verify correct pin assignments
and to check correct layout guidelines and pin spacing.

2. Requirements

Software
You will require Circuit Design Suite (Multisim and Ultiboard) version 13.0 (or later) to be able to utilize the attached resources.

Component Library
This library adds a number of custom symbols and footprints to your Multisim User Database so that you can use them with
the appropriate reference design or template.

Click here to download the component library (http://ftp.ni.com/pub/gdc/epd/db.zip)

To install the component library:

Download and unzip the database file.
Launch Multisim.
Select ToolsDatabaseMerge database.
Select your User Database as the Target database.
Click on Select a Component Database Name button
Browse to the UsrComp_S.usr database file, and click on Open.
Click on the Start button.
Select the Auto-Rename option.
Click on OK.
Once status is "Done" click on the Close button.

3. chipKIT Basic I/O Shield
