Setting the Project Start Date and Examining


the Project Calendar
In this exercise youll establish the project start date and choose the project calendar. In addition, youll enter
two nonworking days for the project.

1. Start Microsoft Project.

2. Open Home Construction Project 2 A from the course dataset folder.

Examine the expanded task list in this file. Most of the tasks from the original task list have
been turned into summary tasks, and new, more detailed tasks are indented within the
summaries.

3. Choose Project >Properties >Project Information to display the Project Information dialog
box.

4. In the Start Date field, verify 6/16/14 is the starting date, if not type 6/16/14.

5. Click OK to close the Project Information box.

6. Now that the project start date has been set, choose Project >Properties
>Change Working Time to display the project calendar.

7. Follow steps A through D below to change your calendar settings.

A. Choose the For calendar drop down button and choose Standard (Project Calendar).

B. Make sure the Exceptions tab is active and enter Independence Day in the first empty
cell of the Name column, followed by the Start and Finish dates.

C. Enter Labor Day (a second non-working day) with the Start and Finish dates.

D. Click OK.

8. Save your file and close it, then continue to the next exercise.
