Reflections on Observation Task 3: Teaching Shared/Guided Reading

1. Which concepts about print (CAP), phonological awareness, letter knowledge and or
phonics did the teacher focus on?

The teacher was focus on learning the children about parts of the book, so they will
recognize the three important part in the story which is front and back cover and author
& Illustrator and also, about the title of the story, so the children knows these
information before starting reading, also asking them how to hold the book, how to read
from right and left, from where the teacher start reading.

a) What did strategies/activities the teacher use to help the students

understand the concept being taught?

The strategies the teacher uses is, asking them lots of questions, use repeating
strategy and that will lead the student to get used to the information, and in
the activities, she let the children in the reading centre, and observe them
asking them where is the title, where is the writer of the book.
2. Were there any initial/medial/final sounds, punctuation, sight words or word families that
were covered during the lesson? If they were, select (a); if they were not, select (b).

a. What was the purpose of teaching these concepts? Explain its importance.
- . Emergent literacy skills are the basic building blocks for learning to read and write,
that is why teaching these concepts is so important in child development, is about the child
learning, the foundation phase of reading a story, they should know each step in reading, from
the tittle and the cover page tell the end of the story.
