1 General Information
This new firmware version V5.40 corresponds to the following software and manual versions:
PR100 Operating Manuals 4080.0966.02/03 07.00.
PRView V4.1.0
PR100Control V5.9.2
ARBToolbox Plus V2.8.0
OSMWizard V5.8.2

2 Firmware update
2.1 Update preparations
A) Ensure there is at least 30MB of free space on the SDCard.

B) Ensure the instrument is connected to the power adapter.

2.2 Firmware update from SD-card

This method requires physical access to the SD card on the R&S PR100.
Copy the following files to the root of the SD-card:
o bootloader_MR_V5_40.bin
o flashfilesystem_MR_V5_40.bin
o osimage_MR_V5_40.bin
o updater_MR_V5_40.bin
o cpldloadfiles_MR_V5_40.bin
o splashscreen_PR100.bmp
Turn off the R&S PR100.
Insert the SD-card into the R&S PR100.
Connect the mains power adapter.
Hold both [LOCK] and [8] buttons while turning on the R&S PR100.
After about 5 seconds you can release the buttons [LOCK] and [8].
Follow the instructions on the instruments screen.

Important: The PR100 must be placed into antenna service mode (SYSTem:ANTenna:SERVice:MODe ON)
before performing the calibration procedure.

2.3 Firmware update by Firmware Upgrade Tool

This method requires Remote Control Option

To ensure downloading of upgrade files are not slowed down, the user should first stop any running scans,
either interactively or by using SCPI commands ABORT or *RST.

The Firmware Upgrade Tool allows firmware upgrade over LAN without physical access to the SD card.
Before starting the upgrade, make sure that the R&S PR100 is connected to the power adapter and an empty
SD card is inserted. Check that the R&S PR100 can be contacted via LAN from the PC.
Start the Upgrade Tool PR100_UpgradeTool_V5_40.exe and follow the instructions on the PC screen. Do not
switch off the PC or the receiver until upgrading is complete. The successful message is shown below.

2.4 Loading default setup during start-up

It is possible to get the default setup loaded when the [LOCK] button is pressed during the startup of the
instrument ([LOCK] and switch the R&S PR100 [ON] at the same time).

3 Remote Connections
To start a remote connection it is necessary to have the PR100-RC option installed.

To install the Remote Control option:

Power up the R&S PR100
Press the "CONF" button
Select "General" via the soft-button (F4)
Read the serial number
Ask R&S for the option-key for the Remote Control option
Scroll to the Option Remote Control
Press ENTER and enter the option key

3.1 Configuring the IP address and port on the R&S PR100

The R&S PR100 is delivered with a fixed IP address with the values below.
Default configuration:
DHCP: Disabled
IP address: 172.17.75.1
SCPI port: 5555
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

When connecting directly to a PC, it's usually easier to configure a fixed IP address:
Power up the R&S PR100
Press the "CONF" button
Select "General" via the soft-button
Scroll to the IP settings (down button)
Apply the following settings:
o DHCP: Disabled
o IP address: <something in the same subnet as the PC> e.g. 172.17.75.1
o IP port: 5555
o Subnet mask: <same as the PC connector> e.g. 255.255.255.0
Alternatively, set DHCP : Enabled to add the R&S PR100 to a DHCP-enabled network

3.2 Configuring the IP Address and Port on the PC

Select the properties of Local Area connection on the PC.
Select properties of the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
o Switch off DHCP by selecting Use the following IP Address.
o IP Address : <ip-address in the range of the R&S PR100> e.g. 172.17.75.20
o Subnet mask: <same as the PC connector> e.g. 255.255.255.0
Connect an Ethernet cable from PC to R&S PR100. The status of the Local Area Network should
now be connected.

3.3 Starting the Remote Interface via SCPI

In order to connect to the remote SCPI interface, a telnet-like session is required. The IP-port is 5555.
In a DOS box, enter
telnet <ip-address of the R&S PR100> 5555 e.g. telnet 172.17.75.1 5555
In the telnet screen you dont see any echo of your commands. You can enter SCPI commands via telnet now,
see user manual for more details on SCPI.

4 New Features in this Release

4.1 DFMSCAN Mode Improvements
Note: Requires PR100-DF option to be installed.
4.1.1 DF Specific Settings in Memory List Entry

Each memory list entry has been extended with new DF specific settings. These settings are only used during
the DFMSCAN mode (they are ignored in MSCAN mode):
DF Squelch Mode
DF Squelch Level
DF Measurement Time
IF-PAN Span
DF Step

4.1.2 Display of DFMSCAN results

The scanning result summary can be accessed via key sequence DISP -> F6 (RESULT). The results are also
stored in the DFMSCAN_RESULT_*.CSV file on the SDCARD. Note that the SDCARD must be present for this
feature to work. The following is an example of the result list:

4.2 Map Display Improvements

4.2.1 Saved GPS Position Navigation

Allows user to include/exclude saved positions without accessing the GPS Positions List. F5 (Select Position) is
used to toggle this feature (Note: This function can be activated only if there is an SD card inserted).
The saved positions can be navigated using the rotary knob, or entering the position number through the
numeric keypad. The Enter key or rotary button can then be used to include or exclude the selected position.
The status bars will display the information related to the selected position, as shown in the screenshot below.

Note that the selected position is always displayed with orange color for:
a) Outline for the point.
b) Azimuth line color (if applicable)

4.2.2 Override azimuth/bearing

This function allows the user to edit the azimuth/bearing (if available) of a selected saved GPS position. Activate
this function using F1 (GPS Position) -> Override Bearing (Note: only active when Select Position is
activated). The azimuth/bearing can be changed using the rotary knob, or direct entry using the numeric keypad.

4.2.3 Polar diagrams in HSCAN mode map display

The polar diagrams associated with the saved positions in HSCAN mode can be visualized on the map display.
Use F2 (Range) -> Show Polar Diagrams to toggle this feature.

4.3 CSV Recording extended to FSCAN, MSCAN and DF modes

Note: Requires PR100-IR option to be installed.
The CSV internal recording mode has been extended to FSCAN, MSCAN and DF modes.
For FSCAN and MSCAN modes, the CSV Record Interval parameter is not used, instead every valid
measurement level will be recorded.

5 Known Bugs / Limitations

DFMSCAN result button is missing when "Display GPS/Compass" setting is ON.
