1 For the rotational system shown in the following figure find the transfer function G(s) = 2(s)/T(s).

2 (a) Explain the operation of synchro transmitter and receiver pair and mention the applications.
(b) Draw the torque-speed characteristics of A.C servomotor and explain how it differs from normal
induction motor.

3 (a) Determine position error constant Kp, velocity error constant Kv, acceleration error constant Ka for
Type-I system.
(b) A unity feedback system is characterized by an open loop transfer function G(s)=K/s(s+10).
Determine the gain K so that the system will have damping ratio of 0.5.

4 Sketch the root locus for: G(s)H(s)=(K( s+1))/(s2 (s+10)).

5 Define and derive the expression for resonant peak and resonant frequency and hence establish
the correlation between time response and frequency response.

6 (a) Explain the application of Nyquist criterion to find the stability.

(b) Enlist the step by step procedure for the construction of Polar plots.

7 The open loop transfer function of a certain unity feedback control system is given by
G(s) = K/s(s+1). It is desired to have the velocity error constant, Kv = 10 and the phase margin to be
at least 600. Design a phase lag series compensator.

8 (a) Compute the state transition matrix for the following system.
x1 (t ) 0 1 x1 (t )
=
x (t ) 2 3 x (t )
2 2
(b) State the properties of state transition matrix.
