Dynamic Assignment

This document contains 4 physics problems involving kinematics concepts such as velocity, acceleration, and motion in various scenarios: 1) A particle moving in a straight line with a given velocity function. The problem involves plotting position, velocity, and acceleration graphs. 2) A ball launched at an angle towards a building top. Calculations include time of flight, maximum height, velocity and acceleration at impact. 3) Motion of a slider pulled by a rotating bar, with given position and angular functions. Calculations include velocity and acceleration at a time. 4) Relative motion problem where car A takes a curve and car B is approaching an intersection, to find the apparent acceleration of A seen by B.

Q1.

A particle moves in a straight lines with velocity is defined by the relation v = 4t2 14t - 12, where
v is expressed in m/s and t in seconds. Knowing that the particle starts from the origin, construct a - t,
v - t and x - t curve for 0 t 12 s. Plot on a graph paper for a - t curve only.

Q2. A ballistic was used to launch a ball on to the top of a building with an initial velocity of 40 m/s at
an angle of 60 with the horizontal as shown in figure. The height of the building is 30 m. Calculate;
a) The time taken by the ball to fall on top of the building
b) The maximum height this ball can reach when measure from the horizontal surface
c) The velocity of the ball when it falls on the building at A, vA
d) The acceleration of the ball in normal (an) and tangent (at) directions at A
e) The radius of curvature of the balls motion at A

Q3. The slider P can be moved inward by means of the string S as the bar OA rotates about the pivot
O. The angular position of the bar is given by = 0.4 + 0.12t + 0.06t3, where is in radians and t is in
seconds. The position of the slider is given by r = 0.8 0.1t 0.05t2 where r is in meters and t is in
seconds. Determine and sketch the velocity and acceleration of the slider at time t = 2 s. Find the
angles and which v and a make with the positive x-axis.

Q4. Car A negotiates a curve of 60 m radius at a constant speed of 50 km/h. When A passes the position
shown, car B is 30 m from the intersection and is accelerating south toward the intersection at the
rate of 1.5 m/s2. Determine the acceleration which A appears to have when observed by an occupant
of B at this instant.
