We will be using a variety of resources for this class. Any required reading or homework
will be available via the class website and provided to students at the start of each unit.
We will also be utilizing core classroom texts when needed to enhance work in those
classes.

Description:
This course will give students a deep understanding of computer technology, proper use
and care for the technology equipment, as well as the role they play in todays world.

Students will focus on the following components of computer proficiency: keyboarding,


word processing, spreadsheets, database management, presentation graphics, safe use of
the internet, and proper etiquette using mobile devices.

Microsoft Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 365 will be used to demonstrate these
components. Other concepts will also be explored as they pertain to core classes, good
citizenship, and professionalism. Students will apply their knowledge to everyday uses
of technology through projects that build on their work in Math, Science, Art, English,
and History.

Goals:
1. Lectures / Demonstrations will be used to discuss objectives of each component and
to illustrate methods of creating various projects.

2. Projects / Labs will be the most important part of the class. It is through these
methods that students will learn by doing the tasks and have a chance to apply their
knowledge to individual projects.

3. Assessments along with the projects and labs, students will be assessed using
quizzes, tests, and other special assignments.

4. Prepare students for the Microsoft Certified Office Specialist exam by 8th grade.
Requirements:

1. Students 4th 8th will need a USB storage device to save their work.

2. Students will publish various pieces of unique work throughout the year using each of
the products in the Microsoft Office Suite.

3. Students will complete labs in Microsoft Office. These will include but are not limited
to using Microsoft Excel to capture and compute research data, Microsoft Publisher and
Word to create items that will be used in their assignment books, Microsoft PowerPoint
to create presentations.

4. Students 6th-8th grade will create a research project 2nd semester related to one of the
core subjects. This project will incorporate the skills and products taught during the first
semester.

5. Students k-5 will learn the basics of computer programming through the use of Lego
robotics.

Evaluation:
Projects 70% Evaluated on effort and
growth.
Test/Quizzes 10% Evaluated on knowledge of
subject matter.
Participation 20% On time for class and
working on assignments.

Examinations:
Tests and quizzes will be taken in the computer lab. Dates will be announced one week
prior.
