 Height and Stagger Gauge

For taking height and stagger

measurements of the over head line
using a Hilti PD42 measurement laser.
The laser is positioned at eye level and
features a 90 viewing prism, enabling
the operator to see the desired cable
and laser location marker at the same
time, in all weather conditions,
including bright sunshine. The rail head
to cable height reading is displayed on
an LCD display, the value is
compensated for the height offset of
the laser, meaning that no on site
calculation is required.
Cable stagger position is indicated on a
scale on the lateral beam of the gauge.
The horizontal beam folds down flat to
the lateral beam for storage and
transport.
This gauge is subject to a 12 monthly

Bowthorpe Clamps and Wedges

The Bowthorpe Wedge is an
aluminium clamp used for rigging

site in our secure Pod.
The Pod is an innovative means of
ensuring all the equipment and
consumables for a project are delivered
on site and are safely stored and
maintained for the project duration.
This saves planning time, waste and helps
ensure the project is completed on time
and to budget.

so equipment is easy to find, store and

The Pod is protected by internal CCTV and

Slinger/CCs using Web Slings
Advantages of Fibre Web Slings

Disdvantages of Fibre Web Slings

l Fibre slings cab especially vumerable to
friction and sharp edges (if required a friction
protection sheath should be used)

Types of Fibre Web Sling

There are various different types of Web Slings
and various capacities. Being able to identify
these types is essential. Each SWL (Safe Work-
ing Load) is denoted by coloour. Slings can be
made of materials such as - nylon, polyester,
kevlar etc.

Lifting With Web Slings

Fibre slings are suitable for a large number of
lifting activities awhere large lifting capacity is
required, but a low weight of LLT (Loose Lifting
Tackle). It is deal for delicate equipment, for
example, S&C components that are required to
be installed whist maintaining a high level of
factory build integrity. There are several
methods that can be used to sling components
using fibre web slings and it is vital that during
the sling and subsequent lift, care is taken to
make sure that the risk of damage to the sling
and component is mitigated. This could be
throught the use of protective sleeves, not
installing excessive sling eyes to hooks, using
the correct couplings (shackles / hooks). NB this
list is not exhaustive.

 Re Rating Slings when Choaked/Clutched or
Basket Configuration
As with most lifting tackle, the angles of lift
and configuration will affect the capacity of the
tackle. As opposed to lift chains/brothers.
Slings can, in some cases, increase their capa-
bility in various configurations. Slingers MUST
be aware of this when slinging loads.

Inspection of Slings
ALL slings should be inspected prior to EVERY
use to ensure that their strength and integrity
have not been comprimised. As with all other
lifting equipment they are required by law
(LOLER) to be inspected at periodic times.
They must also be identified as being tested.
With slings this is by way of a fabric tag woven
into the sling (usually near the eye).

Types of damage to be inspected for - cuts,

heat/friction wear, fraying etc.
