Printing Workflow

There are three main ways to print plots from Techlog Petrophysics: 1. Direct printing to standard printers like A4 or A3, which involves selecting the window and adjusting sizes. 2. Copying the window to the clipboard and pasting into PowerPoint or Word for printing. 3. Creating plot files in various formats, then using Justplot software or importing files into PowerPoint to send to a printer.

Printing
There are essentially 3 different routes to print a layout, Cross plot etc.
1. Print directly.
2. Copy window to the clipboard and paste it into a ppt or word document.
3. Created plot file (CGM or rastergraphics) and then
a. send to plotter using Justplot.
b. Import into ppt file and print through windows.

Direct printing
1. Select the relevant Techlog window
2. Press the button or CNTL P.
3. Select a printer (Pinter Properties).
A4 / A3 printing
In case you selected a normal (colour or B/W) A4 or A3 printer:
All you need to do is select one of the three Adjust options (read Fit to ), and
options on the second tab.
Note that:
it is now (>version 2006.0.5) possible to select both (height and width),
providing a nicely filled A4 plot, but with of course the original aspect ration
lost.
Selecting width may get you several pages. In the Layouts tab you can opt
for repeating the header etc.
The preview shows a colour plot, even when you selected a B/W printer.

Non Standard printer (Roll paper)

4. First you need to assess the actual plot size:
a. In the Techlog Print dialogue box, select the Layouts tab
b. Tick the Fixed Scale tick box near the bottom.
c. Read off and note the plot size in the two boxes ("Optimal width and
height").

5. Select a printer (press printer properties)

Now the art is to find the right paper size. You may have to create / edit a
custom paper size. For the HP DesignJet 800PS 24 by HP, you can find this
option in the bottom of the size drop down box (see above illustration).

In this window you can enter the relevant sizes, press OK.

6. Press the Print button and check in the Techlog Print Dialogue box the
effect of you printer settings.
7. Once you are happy, press Print on this window to start the printing.

Capture Techlog window to the clipboard

1. Select the window you want to capture.
2. press the button or F12.
3. Select clipboard as storage.
4. Open ppt or word file.
5. Resize page if required.
6. CNTL V or paste.
7. Resize picture if required.

Creating plot files

Having the relevant plot window in Techlog active, press the button or F12.
The resulting dialogue box is very self explanatory: 4 format options and 4 capture
scope options and the choice between storing to a file or the clipboard.
If you select file as storage you are asked to provide a filename, and not a file path.
Note that:
The file is stored in the folder various in your project.
In addition, the file path is copied to the clipboard. This is very handy to pick
up the file in another application.
CGM files are a lot bigger in size, but much better in resolution compared to
raster files.

Printing with Justplot

If you have never used / installed Justplot, request the application through an IT
request (JTS-Justplot_Assen_v3-4.1-C) and install it as normal, once you received
confirmation from IT.

Run Justplot, select the file name box and RMB paste. You will see that the full file
path is pasted into the box. Otherwise find the file through the browser button.

Select a printer from the list (open the printer and select one of the cues: Standard).
File Browser Button

Then press the preview button to arrive the following interface

There is no way (yet) to automatically fit to the width of the plotter paper.
You need to know the plotter paper width and the plot size. The latter can be seen in
the preview window in the bottom.

Then press the redefinition button .

To change the length and / or the width:

1. Set Aspect Ration to An-isotropic. This will allow you to change the Scale
X and Y.
2. Change the Scale X and the Scale Y to your liking / needs
3. Press apply

The result will show immediately in the preview plot, and the plot dimensions have
changed.

When dimension fit with the plotter paper etc., you can press the print button on the
Justplot preview window
Problems & solutions with Justplot
What may happen is that the Print button remains greyed out. In that case, press the
file browser button, and reselect the file. Should be OK then.

Printing through PowerPoint / Word

1. Open a ppt or word file.
2. Adjust page size, depending on your plot size / required output size.
3. Import picture from file.
4. If you have just made the snapshot of your plot in Techlog (saving to file), you
can select the file box in the import dialogue box and press CNTL V to past
the full file path of the CGM or raster file. Otherwise browse to the project and
retrieve the file from the folder various in your project.
5. Resize the imported picture if required and print.
