The Special Duckling A Play

Moral of the story: Moral: You cannot judge a person by outward appearance.

Scene 1

Narrator 1: Mummy duck has seven eggs in the nest.

Narrator 2: She is very happy.

Mummy duck: One, two, three, four, five, six little yellow ducklings. But
one egg is different. Its big! Its grey!

Duckling 1: Mummy! Hes big!

Duckling 2: Mummy! Hes grey!

Duckling 3: Mummy! Hes special!

Mummy duck: Yes, hes different. But hes your brother!

Scene 2

Narrator 1: Its a sunny day.

Narrator 2: Mummy duck is taking the ducklings for their first swim.

Duckling 1: Quack, quack. The waters lovely!

Duckling 2: Quack, quack. The waters lovely!

Duckling 3: Quack, quack. The waters lovely!

Duckling 4: Quack, quack. The waters lovely!

Duckling 5: Quack, quack. The waters lovely!

Duckling 6: Quack, quack. The waters lovely!

Special Duckling: Quack, quack. The waters lovely!


Scene 3

Narrator 1: Its summer.

Narrator 2: Today mummy duck is taking the ducklings to the farm.

Mummy duck: Hello! Here are my seven little ducklings.

Old Chicken: No, NOT seven little ducklings! Six little yellow ducklings
and one big, grey, special duckling!

Narrator 1: All the animals look at mother duck.

Narrator 2: All the animals walk towards the Special Duckling.

Narrator 1: The Special Duckling walks away

Narrator 2: But all the other animals follow him.

Horse: Youre an special duckling!

Cat: Youre a big, grey special duckling!

Rabbit: Ha! Ha! Ha! Look at the Special Duckling!

All the animals: Special Duckling, go away! Special Duckling, go away!

Scene 4

Narrator 1: The Special Duckling goes away from the farm.

Narrator 2. He is sad. He meets some frogs.

All the frogs: Hello. Who are you?

Special Duckling: Hello frogs. Im the Special Duckling.

Frog 1 Oh! Youre big

Frog 2: and grey


Frog 3: and special!

All the frogs: Special Duckling, go away! Special Duckling, go away!

Scene 5

Narrator 1: Its autumn.

Narrator 2: The Special Duckling is sad and tired. He goes into a house.

Special Duckling: Hello, old lady. Hello, dog. Hello, cat.

Old Lady: Who are you?

Special Duckling: Im the Special Duckling.

Old Lady: Oh! Youre big!

Old Lady, Cat and Dog: Special Duckling, go away! Special Duckling, go
away!

Scene 6

Narrator 1: Its winter.

Narrator 2. The Special Duckling is cold and tired. He goes into a


farmhouse.

Children: Hes special!

Farmer: Yes, hes special. But hes cold and tired. Lets give him some
milk.

Children: Lets play with the Special Duckling.

Special Duckling: No! Let me go!

Scene 7

Narrator 1: The Special Duckling is very sad. He goes to a river.

Narrator 2. Its winter and its very cold.


Narrator 1: He hides all winter.

Narrator 2: Its spring now.

Swan 1: What a beautiful swan!

Special Duckling: A beautiful swan? Where?

Swan 2: Youre the beautiful swan!

Special Duckling: No, Im not a swan! Im an special duckling!

Swan 1: No, youre not an special duckling!

Swan 2: Youre a swan!

Swan 1: Youre a beautiful swan!

Swans 1 and 2: Look in the water!

Special Duckling: Oh, yes! Im a swan! Im a beautiful white swan!

Narrator 1: The Special Duckling isnt sad. Hes happy!

Narrator 2. The Special Duckling isnt different. He isnt grey.

Narrator 1: And he isnt an special duckling!

Narrators 1 and 2: Hes a beautiful white swan!
