Objective:
To introduce the students to various faults and other abnormal operating conditions in various parts of
the power system and their impact on power system.
To understand the characteristics and functions of different relays and their role for power system
protection.
To understand the phenomena of current interruption and the problems associated with circuit
interruption by various switchgears.
Prerequisite:
Knowledge of Generation, Transmission and distribution of electrical Power
Circuit Breakers: Operating Principles and constructional details of different types of circuit breakers air
break, air blast, oil, SF6 and vacuum circuit breakers, comparative merits of different circuit breakers. 6
