CIS 221/223 ADA Presentations Assignment - 20 points

The textbook describes multimedia and presentation software in Chapter 9 on


pages 216 through 225. Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides are two popular
presentation software programs. This software is used regularly by teachers and
students to deliver presentations, present lecture notes, create handouts, and
express creativity. PowerPoint can also be used to create games and work with
Classroom Response Systems, i.e. interactive clickers.
For this assignment, you will create a presentation on the important educational
topic of the American with Disabilities Act, Title II of this Act, and ways technology
is used to assist student with disabilities. Its very important that teachers be
aware of these topics and technologies.
The requirements of your assignments are described below as well as a grading
rubric that specifies the assignment requirements and point breakdown.

Content - Assignment Requirements (20 points):


Your presentation should:

Describe what the American with Disabilities Act is.


Describe what Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act is.
List at least 5 examples of types of disabilities covered by ADA and Title II.
Describe what Assistive Technology is as it related to students and learning.
Describe how captioning adds accessibility to YouTube videos.
Describe what an alt tag is and how it adds accessibility to web pages and
Microsoft Office documents.
Describe why blinking/flashing content in documents should be avoided for
accessibility reasons
Provide information on at least 2 of the following:
o Describe what the Read&Write Chrome web browser extension is and how
it helps students with disabilities.
o Describe what the crxMouse Chrome web browser extension is and how it
helps students with disabilities.
o Describe what Sip-and-Puff technology is and how it helps students with
disabilities.
o Describe what Ghotit technology is and how it helps students with
disabilities.
Technical PowerPoint - Assignment Requirements (18 points):
(See PowerPoint tutorials and resources at the end of this assignment)
In your presentation, you must:

Have at least 15 slides.


The first slide should be a title that includes the title of the presentation and
your name.
Use at least two different slide layouts, e.g. title slide, title and content, etc.
Apply a theme, i.e. pre-defined background color, font face, design, etc.
Include at least three images, photos, or clip art images in the
presentation. The clipart/images should be in some way related to the content
of the presentation or slide.
You can find the images through PowerPoint, links on our course web site, or
public domain images you find on the Internet/Web through a popular search
engine.
Apply a slide transition between each slide.
Animate at least one text or object.
Add a sentence of notes to at least two of your slides.
PowerPoint has a feature where you can add notes to slides. This may be
useful if you were creating a PowerPoint document to give for a presentation
or class lecture.
Include at least two working/clickable web site hyperlinks to relevant web
pages, such as references.
Follow proper PowerPoint design rules, e.g. font size, lines per slide,
consistency, etc.

Accessibility - Assignment Requirements (2 points):

Ensure your presentation file is accessible using the built-in Microsoft PowerPoint
Accessibility Checker. This option can be found under the Review menu in
PowerPoint, then there is a Check Accessibility button on the left side. In older
versions of PowerPoint, click File, then Info. Then, select the Check for Issues
button. In the Check for Issues drop down, select Check Accessibility.
Correct any Accessibility Errors. You do not have to correct all warnings or tips.

Submitting the Presentation:


1. Upload your presentation file to Moodle under the Presentation and ADA
Assignment Assignment for submission.
2. Your file must have a file extension of .pptx. This is the file extension for
files created using Microsoft PowerPoint.
3. You can save your file as a .pptx file in Google Slides by clicking File, then
Download As then Microsoft PowerPoint .pptx.
