Imaging Science Signal Processing Photograph Video Frame Parameters Two-Dimensional Signal Three-Dimensional

Image processing involves applying mathematical operations to images through signal processing techniques. Most techniques isolate individual color planes of an image and apply standard signal processing to them as two-dimensional signals. Images can also be processed as three-dimensional signals with time or the z-axis as the third dimension.

In imaging science, image processing is processing of images using mathematical operations by

using any form of signal processing for which the input is an image, a series of images or a video,
such as a photograph or video frame; the output of image processing may be either an image or a
set of characteristics or parameters related to the image.[1]Most image-processing techniques involve
isolating the individual color planes of an image and treating them as two-dimensional signal and
applying standard signal-processing techniques to them. Images are also processed as three-
dimensional signals with the third dimension being time or the z-axis.
