    NILO ALLOY 48

    A nickel-iron controlled-expansion alloy containing 48% nickel. Its coefficient of thermal


    expansion is designed to match that of soft lead and soda-lime glasses. The alloy also
    has a high inflection point. Used for glass-to-metal seals in radio valves and
    incandescent electric light bulbs and for industrial thermostats that operate at
    temperatures up to 840F (450C).

    Cold working :

    Cold working is not suitable for this alloy as it tends to distort the coefficients of thermal
    expansion.

    Annealing :

    Nilo 48 is used in thermostats in industrial applications up to 450C(840F).

    Applications :

    The NILO48 alloy is used in the following applications:

    Semiconductor lead frames in integrated circuits


    Bi-metal thermostat strip
    Thermostat rods
    Ceramic-to-metal seals
    Glass-to-metal seals for television tubes, fluorescent lights.
