Lab-2 Power Electronics

The document discusses single phase full wave uncontrolled rectifiers. It provides circuit diagrams and explanations of how full wave rectifiers work for resistive and resistor-inductor mixed loads. Performance parameters like peak inverse voltage, average and RMS values of output voltage and current, efficiency, form factor and ripple factor are defined and procedures are given to measure these parameters experimentally.

SINGLE PHASE UNCONTROLLED AC/DC POWER

CONVERTERS
Part (b) Single phase full wave uncontrolled rectifier
Theory
Construction of Full Wave Rectifier:
In single phase full wave rectifier the voltage source is connected to the load through a
bridge circuit as shown in Fig. 2.1, output voltage Vo is taken across load.

Working of Full Wave Rectifier:

During the positive half-cycle of input voltages, the power is supplied to load through
diodes D1 and D2. During the negative cycle of input voltage, D3 and D4 conducts. It is also known
as bridge rectifier.

For R-L Mixed load

For R-L mixed load during the positive half cycle the diode D1 and D2 conducts but
due to energy stored in inductor it continues to conduct for small portion of negative half cycle of
input voltages which may distort output voltages. Its circuit diagram is shown in Fig. 2.3.
