Notes:
1. CMinimum clearance allowed between edges of discontinuities 3/32 in. [2.5 mm] or larger (per Figure E.1). Larger of adjacent discontinuities governs.
2. X1Largest permissible elongated discontinuity for 1-1/8 in. [30 mm] joint thickness (see Figure E.1).
3. X2Multiple discontinuities within a length permitted by Figure E.1 may be handled as a single discontinuity.
4. X3X4Rounded type discontinuity less than 3/32 in. [2.5 mm].
5. X5Rounded type discontinuities in a cluster. Such a cluster having a maximum of 3/4 in. [20 mm] for all pores in the cluster shall be treated as requiring the same clearance as a
3/4 in. long discontinuity of Figure E.1.
Interpretation: Rounded and elongated discontinuities are acceptable as shown. All are within the size limits and the minimum clearance allowed between discontinuities or the end of
a weld joint.
